Memorial Day and the weekend of is commonly marked in the Crossfit community by performing the hero WOD Murph, a workout formerly known as ‘Body Armor’ and renamed for its creator Lt. Michael Murphy after he selflessly sacrificed himself to make a life-saving phone call for what would become the lone survivor of his group, Marcus Luttrell (the film ‘Lone Survivor’ depicts this story). The WOD is: 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats, 1 mile run - wear body armor if on hand (20LB men/14LB women). While personal achievement is important, Murph is about honoring the sacrifice Lt Murphy and many others like him have made. It doesn’t matter if you can only complete half, a quarter, need to scale any of the movements, or do it without a vest. Don’t have the equipment? Use what you have. Murph is about showing up and giving your all in honor and thanks to the best of your ability. Thank you will never be enough.
