Leman Russ Punisher
The Leman Russ Battle Tank is the main battle tank of the Imperial Guard armies, a heavily armoured and powerfully armed war machine renowned across the galaxy for its deadliness and durability. One of the hallmarks of the Leman Russ is the versatility of its hull - with relative ease it can be refitted to field a number of variant tanks such as the Leman Russ Punisher.
The Punisher, a relatively recent variant was created specifically to provide anti-infantry supprt against the endless hordes of Orks and tyranids by making use of a Punisher Gatling Cannon as it's primary weapon. This multi-barreled weapon allows the Punisher tank to achieve a rate of fire unmatched by all but a few other vehicles. The Punisher eschews anti-tank effectiveness for the ability to mow down enemy infantry in vast quantities. Its turret-mounted gatling cannon is an unsubtle bullet-hose that applies the simple principle of overwhelming firepower to slaughter its targets.
Similar to the Leman Russ Demolisher and Leman Russ Executioner the Punisher is more heavily armored to survive attacks at close range, especially useful when used against hordes of Orks and Tyranids. Often squadrons of Punishers will operate ahead of the main Imperial force, scything down the enemy to at the very least more manageable numbers for follow-on forces.
Punisher tank crews have a reputation for being trigger-happy with this potent weapon. It is typical for Punisher crews to strip out all non-essential items in order to cram in as much ammunition as possible before setting off for battle. The tank is also equipped with other anti-infantry weapons, such as sponson-mounted Heavy Bolters and Heavy Flamers. Like any other Leman Russ variant, the Leman Russ Punisher can be outfitted with a hull-mounted Lascannon or Heavy Bolter. Leman Russ tanks that are a part of an unusually well-equipped armoured regiment sometimes have 2 Multi-Meltas or 2 Plasma Cannons as their sponson weapons.
