Why do we do form drawing?
We started form drawing in first grade as a I figured it would be fun and help with handwriting and make introducing cursive easier, I was right and wrong, it isn’t easy fun, it’s challenging! But it did prove to be a great will builder and help with cursive. Then I figured we would continue with third grade forms so we could get to the beautiful fourth grade Celtic knots and weaving patterns, and fifth grade geometry. And again I found this all so challenging for my boys, we let it slide for a while for the more “important” subjects. .
And then my son struggled with his reading, specifically tracking, he could read long words but skipped the little connecting words and parts of words and often whole lines, so I started looking for help with that and after lots of looking and research I realized I could buy special programs or workbooks or we could just go back to form drawing. There are tons of reasons to do form drawing but that’s our big one, it seems to do wonders for tracking and perseverance!
That last picture is done by my kindergartener because she just can’t wait to start!
