When I don’t have the words to make sense of the challenges I see in the world, I often open up my copy of ‘The Essential Rumi’. Today this quote spoke to me. Yes I’m tired because I’m 25 weeks pregnant with a toddler and a Preppie, but broader than that, I’m tired of the one-sided, simplistic, click-bait media culture we live in that panders to industry and advertiser dollars, disconnecting people from themselves, and each other. Disconnecting us from the wisdom within as it seduces the animal-brain into fight-or-flight anger or fear responses, when what we all really want to to find meaning, and make a difference to others. The environment, and human health, share a symbiotic relationship and yet we have been encouraged to manipulate one for our own indulgent benefit through rampant consumerism, and handover the other to someone else to ‘fix it’, instead of empowering ourselves. But if this is where we find ourselves, there must be purpose in it, so even when it feels frustrating, and overwhelming, yes - the obstacle is the way. I’m grateful to have a community where we can explore challenges, find new ways of being, and see the wisdom in it all.
