Spring will be here before you know it! What will be coming up in your garden? These tulips are best pink from @colorblends. Every year I plant more, but still feel hesitant to pick them from the garden because I don’t think I’ll have enough left over! Nothing makes me happier than sitting outside after a long winter, being surrounded by these beautiful blooms. Share your pictures with @thegardeness as your spring flowers start to come up, we love to see them!! . . . #chestercounty #westchester #kennettsquare #downingtown #coatesville #landscapedesign #landscapeideas #landscapedesigner #horticulture #plants #flowers #gardener #garden #gardendesigner #gardenideas #containergarden #thegardeness at Chester County, Pennsylvania

The Annabelle hydrangeas in their first summer last year in the woodland garden. If you look a bit closer you will see two standard cherry trees planted in each hydrangea bed. These should grow together to form an arch framing the bench and screening the view of next doors bird feeding station dead tree! The hydrangeas and cherries were bought in as big mature plants. What is your preference, buying as big as possible or starting with small plants and watching them grow? #annabellehydrangea #romanticgardens #metalbench #whitegardens

Walking into the weekend... _ For some of us the weekend doesn't mean sleeping in and relaxing. To those of us who don’t (and can’t) stop working just because it’s 5 pm on a Friday; whether its owning a business, taking care of kids and family, side projects, or many other responsibilities we have - keep it up and remind yourself why you’re doing it. _ Happy Friday everyone and keep smiling, working or not! at Toronto, Ontario

Whether you love a full rainbow of color, or are more monochromatic in your color choices, we have you covered to create beautiful spring containers! Contact me today if you have any questions about putting together a successful spring planter or are interested in our container subscription program. . . . #chestercounty #westchester #kennettsquare #downingtown #coatesville #landscapedesign #landscapeideas #landscapedesigner #horticulture #plants #flowers #gardener #garden #gardendesigner #gardenideas #containergarden #thegardeness at Chester County, Pennsylvania

Our latest project is really beginning to take shape now with the introduction of the new porcelain paving! As we mentioned in our last post, the pictures don't really do justice to how big this garden is and how much bigger it 'feels' now that it has been opened up! When the new turf is laid it really will start to look like a garden befitting of the property and the setting...it will be a fabulous place to spend some time come the Summer (which is forecast to be of a similar nature to last year's with wall to wall sunshine - Get that BBQ ready!) Stay tuned for the final images of the transformation! Wishing you all a great weekend!!!! Enjoy the sunshine!!!

The hydrangea border in February. These are white Annabelle hydrangeas coming into their second year in the woodland garden. We planted them as quite big plants (imported from Italy) last year, to get the border filling out quickly. The old dried heads have been left on to protect the new growth over the winter (and because they look pretty)! The Annabelles will be dead headed and trimmed up at the end of March beginning of April depending on when the last heavy frosts are forecast.

Are you wondering just how much rock, soil, or bark you will need for your DIY project? Just how big is a cubic yard? Using this estimate-one cubic yard will cover 100 sq. ft at 3" deep, will get you pretty close. You can also check out the handy coverage chart we posted. If you are still unsure, just give Linda a call...she will convert your square footage to cubic yards faster than you can say- #yourneighborhoodlandscapematerialsyard. . . . #DIYprojects #newyearnewyard #shopsmall #shoplocal #diylandscaping #springiscoming #backyarddesign #landscapeideas #dreamyard #pasorobles #atascadero #templeton #backyardgardener at Steve Schmidt Topsoil, Inc.

Winter interest can be as simple as leaving your ornamental grasses go through the season before cutting them back in spring. This dwarf pennisetum ‘Little bunny’ stays small through the growing season and adds great texture to the garden even in winter! I loved how it looked this morning, covered in ice, while enjoying coffee outside. It has many other uses as well, including being great in container gardens, and also being used with cut flowers in late summer/ fall when it gets plumes. Soon it will get cut back to allow for new growth, but I’ll admire it while it lasts! . . . #chestercounty #westchester #kennettsquare #downingtown #coatesville #landscapedesign #landscapeideas #landscapedesigner #horticulture #plants #flowers #gardener #garden #gardendesigner #gardenideas #containergarden #thegardeness #winterinterest at Downingtown, Pennsylvania

How to assemble an Aquifer Pipe All of our irrigation systems use the next generation of irrigation, called the Aquifer Pipe. You place the Aquifer Pipe 12 inches to 18 inches below the surface to feed plants from the bottom up at the roots, this avoids losing water 50% of the water to evaporation. By cutting evaporation you save 50% of the water normally needed. About In this photo we assemble the Aquifer Pipe with a 3 inch Pipe elbow, that will extend to the surface so we can add water manually. Notice the styrofoam insert is used to push the Aquifer Pipe up against the elbows walls to assure a nice tight fit before glueing. The Aquifer Pipe fits all standard 3” pipe fittings. The fittings can be made from PVC or ABS.
