HERBIVORE, CARNIVORE, OMNIVORE...
So, which one are we?
If you research it, we are Omnivores.
We are definitely not Carnivores!
But we have the characteristics of Herbivores.
Originally, we were herbivores grazing on root foods like beets and yams.
Survival was our primary objective as it is today.
Approximately 2.6 million years ago, we discovered that eating animal flesh reduced the need to chew, which burnt less calories overall. This was extremely important in our survival.
On average it required between 39-46% less force to chew meat than root vegetables.
Plus, meat was far more calorie dense which provided required nutrition.
Meat became a significant part of the human diet.
This in turn contributed to human evolution, because over time we developed smaller teeth and larger brains, which helped with our speech and thermoregulation.
So, humans evolved into Omnivores as a result.
However, a common argument that exists is based on our teeth.
Are our canines supposed to be used for eating meat?
The answer is a resounding NO!
A hippopotamus has the largest canines of any land mammal, and they are Herbivores.
Combat and territory are their primary uses.
Our canines are not sharp enough compared to Carnivores.
Plus, there is the fact that our intestinal tract is much longer, and our ph level in our stomach is higher, meaning it is less acidic. This makes the digestion process much more difficult for humans than Carnivores.
Carnivores also have claws, whereas Herbivores have hands or hooves.
Carnivores cool down by panting, but Herbivores sweat.
Carnivores drink by lapping and Herbivores drink by sipping.
Carnivores produce their own Vitamin C, but Herbivores obtain it from their diet.
Carnivores jaws only move up and down. Herbivores move from side to side and up and down.
So, my advice to everybody is to turn to a plant based diet, and alleviate the pressure on your digestive system, which in turn will improve your overall wellbeing.
Not to mention the cruelty aspect to the animal kingdom, and the manipulation that humanity bestows upon it!
Veganism is the future, and if actioned correctly, the world has a chance to repair and heal over time ❤️🌱🙏
