Just wanted to give you guys a little update on my 24 hour fast.
First, the fast worked like a champ. The remaining fogginess from my #migrainehangover has officially lifted and I've got energy back!
Second, how I balance working out and fasting:
I believe it's safe to do fasted workouts, as long as you replenish with protein within 20 minutes of finishing the exercise. This is an opinion I formed from research, but still largely an opinion, so I'll say this: listen to your body. If you feel weak/dizzy/pukey during fasted workouts, they aren't for you (yet) and that's ok!
Also, a caveat to that: technically, I do break my fasts before working out by taking 5g BCAAs. I say technically because they shut down autophagy, but you'll still get other fasting benefits. Plus, huge benefit, BCAAs are protein sparing and can be put to use immediately by the body. Personally I've noticed a gigantic difference in my stamina/endurance, and speed of workout recovery. I picked this tip up from Joe Rogan and Dom D'Agostino. ******
Finally, in case anyone is curious about what my workout routines have looked like this month... I've still been doing #TabataFebruary daily. But I wasn't really getting bang for my buck with my body weight workouts anymore, so I got a kettlebell to up the ante. Just one, and I still do it in just the space of a yoga mat, so it's still more affordable than the gym by a lot.
Holy. Moley. I'm telling you, you ever want to feel out of shape, buy a kettlebell. I've just been searching for 20 (or so) minute kettlebell workouts on YouTube and following along. Particularly been loving the ones by @bodyfitbyamy and @hasfit_official. They have been totally roasting me, so I've been allowing 2 rest days in between with lots of foam rolling. In March I plan to turn those rest days into some kind of active rest, maybe spin or yoga class.
So anyway, my schedule tonight went: 5g BCAAs, "20 Minute Full Body Kettlebell Shred Workout for Strength and Cardio", and then my favorite "dessert ever - @originlabs Jocko Molk blended up with hemp milk and ice.
