My mamma’s ricotta crostata. It was perfect with an espresso coffee this afternoon. She always adds studs of dark chocolate and splashes of Alberti’s Strega (Witches) Liqueur, a bright yellow herbal based liqueur. Neapolitan traditions are many and varied - reflected even in their culinary offerings. A different dish symbolizes each day over the Easter period, yesterday for Maundy Thursday - Giovedì Santo - we locals tucked in to a dish steeped in Neapolitan history - “zuppa cozzeche ch ‘o russo” - fresh mussels and octopus in a delicious tomato and fiery red chili-based broth served alongside crispy frisella (round piece of dry baked durum wheat flour bread) to dip in and soak up the sauce 😋.
