What you think of yourself is more important than what others think of you 💟✨💫☯️ Day 5 of #lovechakrachallenge is extended puppy pose 🧘🏻‍♀️💖 This pose is so important to me, ever since I started practicing yoga it’s been something I will do more than once in a practice because of how good it feels 😍 to do: you have to lengthen your spine and keep your arms active with your elbows off your mat so you can feel the stretch all the way through your upper-arms to the end of your spine ☺️ and if you keep your hips stacked over your knees you’re in for a really nice good stretch 👌🏼 This pose also has a lot of benefits to it! i’ve never been that great at skandasana aka side lunge. in order to perform the proper alignment in this pose, you have to keep the lunging foot planted flat on the ground. my body’s natural reaction is to lunge on my tip toes but i worked hard to keep my foot planted flat here. this way you can get fully into the hips. it’s hard for me to keep my foot flat AND stack my torso up straight. so i compromised by keeping a hand to the ground. but that made it easier to drink the wine. but trust me, i felt this deep in my hip. — “ #WineYourAsana 🍷💋 ⠀ February 11-20 ⠀ ⠀ Are you ready to take your practice to the next level? Navasana, one of the poses I hate the most! I’ve never liked it and I don’t think I ever will. I find it challenging because I tend to activate my hip flexors to hold my legs up instead of my core muscles, and that creates tension in my hips and weaknesses in my lower back . BUT this is actually why it is the perfect pose for me to practice! Because I know where my weakness lies in this pose, I can consciously re-train my brain and body to activate the right muscles and relax the ones that shouldn’t be activated or so tense . Yoga is about being present with what your body needs and feels, but it is also surrendering to discomfort and learning to stop pursuing only what feels good, what gives you that ‘high’ kick . Try to practice things you like as much as the things you don’t like. Be mindful and don’t hurt yourself of course, but you’ll learn so much more from what’s difficult and might feel unnatural to your body than from what you already know and is simple . That’s how I envision a balanced practice where I mix up things I am comfortable with and feel good, with what I don’t really like and try to avoid . Yogi Journal Day 1: Real Intention? When I ask myself what my real intention for practicing yoga a few things come to mind but for me the most important is Chakra Balancing and De-Stressing. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜📿 Flexibility and body toning is an obvious bonus because things like cardio make me lose to much weight and I don't like being out of breathe the way intense weight resistance makes me feel, though I do add in a few weight resistance workouts but, that is to help build the muscle I need faster for certain power yoga poses. For example: I need stronger arms for Pincha 😅 I consider myself pretty open about my mental health issues. Like most people I know I deal with depression and intense anxiety and I often seek alternative ways to cope with these problems and Yoga and Meditation helps me a lot with that. I am also a very goal driven person so that is why I use Instagram to document my progress and be inspired by other yogis. Find your joy, and do it on purpose. Joy isn’t just going to fall in your lap. Joy requires cultivation. It requires intentionally creating moments of ease. It requires acting in ways that make you feel joyful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We cannot just wait for the feelings we aspire for to fall in our laps. We need to be intentional about cultivating them. I was chatting with a client about this the other day. They want to feel “freedom”. But, without acting in ways that are in line with that feeling, it won’t happen. We explored what they could do that feels freeing, what they could let go of to create the space they so crave. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The feeling isn’t just going to come without the action. Sup 🔮 Little yoga-lesson because of yoga pic: *drums* 🥁...In yoga we work with energies. The stuff we’re and everything around us is made of. Those can get out of balance, so we can balance them out, and we can also play with them according to our current needs - which is pretty cool. Need more energy? - Deepen your inhales, preferably into your chest. Wanna calm down? - Lengthen your exhales, and focus on belly breath. So you notice: most important tool to work with our lovely energies is our breath 💁🏻‍♀️. This is also what we built in the postures and through particular spinal movements. Is also why all teacher bees keep bringing (or should be bringing) your awareness to your breath and it is why we do those breathing practices (pranayama). Yess, you got it - we shape our energy. That’s not just awesome because we’re all breathing-failures these days (shallow breathers) and deep breaths are healing and can be relaxing (and also help us keep movements save) but it’s also rad because we can step by step 🐾 work towards activating “dormant” energies (like powerful magic batteries usually safely tucked away) within us that can trigger little internal fireworks to help us break through those damn ennerving self-inflicted limitations in life.
