دار شوارة للدبغ (Dâr shawara lildubagh)
The tannery of Fez is a wondrous place where old traditions are still preserved today. My adventure started as soon as I stepped into the terrace of the owner of a bags' shop who kindly brought me there. While climbing the wooden stairs inside the store I got hit by an acrid pungent smell, a scent of stinky natural ingredients employed in the process of tanning the animals' skins. A shower of colors in the basins stood out the background. The ingredients are always ready to dye anything absorbed by the tanning substances. Every day at the tanneries, people work as their ancestors did. The old craft is passed on throughout each new generation. A ritual that will never end and keeps intact the culture of the moroccan handicraftmen.
