Far into the interior of Mauritania, I hopped into one of the longest trains in the world. The train freights tons of Iron Ore from the mines throughout a harsh 18 hour journey along the desert. The locals use it to transport their goods for free, but they must use the iron cars exposed to wind, sand, iron dust particles and extreme temperatures. It's a long journey and everyone becomes a family, sharing and helping in what's needed. I helped pull the donkeys into the car and they helped me with my equipment. It's dinner time and I think this image represents exactly what the iron train is. While the train is moving, we make some fire, and we cook rice with tuna and vegetables. We all share the food from the same pot, brew some tea, chat, and once it gets darker, everyone makes their praying and goes to sleep. An experience like no other.
