Most of you guessed right in our last picture 🙌 but yes, it was the great gate to the Taj Mahal in Agra, India. Most people focus on this view when they visit, but in our opinion the gates are just as impressive!
This is India’s most iconic attraction - and in our opinion is well worth the hype, however the Taj is also bearing the brunt as India’s most over-touristed sight. Since 2011, annual visitors have increased from 4 million a year to over 6 million.
In an attempt to save the Taj from swarming visitors, ticket prices are being increased - although the huge gap between what foreigners and Indians pay will remain.
This year the price for foreigners went up from 1000 to 1100 rupees and the price for Indians increased from 50 rupees to 250 rupees.
Overtourism is not the only threat to the Taj, but authorities are confident that fewer feet will help conserve this awe-inspiring tomb.
Either that or they’ll make considerably more money... 🧐
What do you think about increasing prices to manage tourism? Would you pay the extra?
