#memories #maquette #libro #book #darknovels #darktales #horror #horrornovels #poe #edgarallanpoe #darkness #death #reddeath #maskofthereddeath #bakemonolab #nuovolibro #gothicillustration #gothicart #gothic #raccontigotici #gotico #illustrazione #raccontidelterrore #bcbf #bcbf19 #letsgo

Well, that Wendy Lesser book turned out to be full of Freudian nonsense about men being obsessed with their mothers. It also seemed to assume that male writers look at women as an alien species who they need to "understand." Typical Baby Boomer upper middle class fluff. Hopefully this will be better. #bookstagram #horrornovels #americanpsycho #breteastonellis #genxlit

| REVIEW | . . "See the TURTLE, ain't he keen? All things serve the fuckin Beam." . . Plot Synopsis: Roland has altered ka by saving the life of Jake Chambers in New York. Now they exist in different worlds, paradoxically sharing memories. The ka-tet must try to draw Jake into Mid-World then follow the Path of the Beam through an urban waste land to the Dark Tower. Pursued by the Ageless Stranger, Roland and his friends cross a desert of damnation in this macabre new world as revelations begin to unfold about who - and what - is driving him forward. . . Rating: 4.5/5 This was a different kind of novel after The Drawing of the Three. It was not as fast-paced and things happened gradually over it's almost 600 pages. I loved the heavy usage and influence of Eliot's poetry, which also provides the book with its name, I love him to death. Blaine the Mono is amazing in this book. Apart from Roland, Susannah remains the most fascinating character. King is holding a lot of cards very close to his chest which will be revealed only when the time comes. I am willing to wait since it's only the third book in the series. . . I am not a huge fan of cliffhangers, this book has one, so glad I am reading after everything has been published. It took me quite a while to finish this book, much more than I had expected because of four days of college fest followed by four days of Oceanvale without a break, and now now my reading schedule is in complete shambles. I am doubtful whether I can still do the rest of Dark Tower books along with my #FemmeMarchFest TBR in the remaining part of the month, but I will try my best. . . I have picked up Sarah Winman for now, and will start Wizards and Glass tomorrow. . . . . . . @stephenking @hodderbooks @hachette_india #bookster #bookblogger #igbooks #instaread #bookdragon #bookcommunity #bookishinstagram #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #booksofinstagram #bookaesthetic #booksread #bookreview #readmore #bibliophile #ilovereading #ilovebooks #readinglife #readeveryday #booksarelife #bookphoto #horrornovels #thewastelands #thedarktowerseries #thedarktowermarathon #thedarktower

i absolutely loved this book! super creepy, lots of very odd twists and turns. i went back and reread most of the poems once i had finished. one of my favorite parts was the structure - main story chapter, poem, and then a flashback sort of story told by one of the characters. i really loved learning about each and every one slowly as the entire plot unraveled. it was very well done!! • # 18, Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk, 3/15-3/17/19 404 pages, 5:15 • #Bookstagram #Bookish #Bookstagrammer #Book #Books #Bookworm #BookPhoto #BookPhotography #Reading #Literature #EmReads2k19 #Haunted #ChuckPalahniuk #Palahniuk #Creepy #Scary #Thriller #Horror #HorrorNovel #HorrorNovels

📓 Vampiri - Dylan Dog 📓 . . Book #13 of 2019 - A Head Full of Ghosts by @paulgtremblay This will be my first book by Paul Tremblay; I've also got Disappearance at Devil's Rock at home. The Bookstagram community has expanded my TBR pile to monstrous proportions, but I've discovered so many great authors this way that I ain't mad! . . . I just finished Pet Sematary. I believe I read it before in my teens, but not since I've had kids. Wow that novel gutted me. Several times I couldn't see to read because of the tears streaming down my face 😭 It's such an amazing novel, so emotional and it was basically impossible to put it down in those last 100 pages or so! . . . #paultremblay #aheadfullofghosts #stephenking #petsematary #book #books #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #instabooks #bookstagrammer #bookish #bookishfeatures #constantreader #bibliophile #horror #horrornerd #horrorfan #horrornovel #horrornovels #bookaddict #readingaddict #booknerd #bookgeek #bookreader #bookworm

FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley - We come to a close with the #sonofthe13th series and I couldn’t think of a better book to wrap up today’s posts, than Frankenstein. It’s one of the most well-known and enduring stories that has stood the test of time. Published in 1818, the novel just celebrated its 201st birthday! - First Published: January 1, 1818 This novel influenced: Frankenstein (1931) Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969) Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994) Victor Frankenstein (2014) and more films, television series, and even video games than I can count. To say that it is an enduring story is an understatement. - #horror #horrorbooks #horrornovels #classicnovels #novellas #shortstory #shortstories #horrorfiction #horrorlife #horrorfan #horroraddict #classicfilms #classicbooks #classichorror #watchclassichorror #readclassichorror #bookstagram #frankenstein #maryshelley #monster #universalmonsters

PSYCHO by Robert Bloch - Norman Bates loves his Mother. She has been dead for the past twenty years, or so people think. Norman knows better though. He has lived with Mother ever since leaving the hospital in the old house up on the hill above the Bates motel. One night Norman spies on a beautiful woman that checks into the hotel as she undresses. Norman can't help but spy on her. Mother is there though. She is there to protect Norman from his filthy thoughts. She is there to protect him with her butcher knife. Have you read it? What’s your favorite moment in this book? - First Published: April 1959 This novel influenced: Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960) Psycho II (1983) Psycho III (1986) Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990) Bates Motel (2013) Television series - Not only did @amy_fortheloveofbooks recommend this excellent novel, she took time to create one of her incredible book cover art paintings for this series. (Be sure to see her excellent Psycho post art she made for this recommendation - click on the link in my story today.) She’s bringing a love of books to a whole new level and you’ll want to read every book she recommends after seeing her posts. On top of all of that, she’s got a pretty great “day job” as the Book Review Editor of the newspaper column: For The Love of Books. If you’re not already following her, that’s a shame! CONJURE WIFE by Fritz Leiber - Discovering that his wife, Tansy, is a witch is just scratching the surface for Norman, a sociology professor at a small American college. Confronting his wife and forcing her to get rid of her protective charms immediately makes his luck turn from bad to worse to deadly. - Let me know in the comments if you’ve read this and what you thought of it. - First Published: 1943 (in “Unknown Worlds”) and in 1952 as a novel This novel influenced: Weird Woman (1944) Burn, Witch, Burn (1962) Witches’ Brew (1980) If you haven’t seen Burn, Witch, Burn yet, it’s a part of my Horror in Black & White series of movie recommendations. DRACULA by Bram Stoker - Dracula moves from his castle in Transylvania to England where he will be able to pursue fresh blood, reign unholy terror, and woo (read: control) the lovely Mina. - This list is in no particular order, but if it were, this would be right up towards the top for sure. An excellent read and very creepy. Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever read this classic and what you think. - You should also check out the short story “Dracula’s Guest” by Bram Stoker. This was published after his death and was originally intended as the first chapter to Dracula. It’s an excellent short story that pairs perfectly with the book. I found it after @onedarkally posted about a book called Masterpieces of Terror and the Supernatural: A Treasury of Spellbinding Tales Old & New selected by Marvin Kaye. Once I saw the cover of this book, I had to have it for my collection. And the first short story included in this horror anthology is “Dracula’s Guest.” Read Dracula, and grab a copy of the book I just mentioned with the very long title! - First Published: May 1897 This novel influenced: Dracula (1931) Nosferatu (1922) (unauthorized adaptation) More than 200 other films have been adapted from this classic novel. What’s your favorite version of Dracula? - This is an excellent recommendation from @dawnkurtagich. BENIGHTED by J. B. Priestley - Five travelers seek refuge from torrential rains and flooding. They stumble upon a house with an eccentric family that are both strange and hostile. This was recommended by @contraryreader (see below) and I’m glad she did. I didn’t realize this was the source material for one of my favorite films, James Whale’s The Old Dark House, and I’ve placed it at the top of my to be read list. - Let me know in the comments if you’ve read this! - First Published: 1927 This novel influenced: The Old Dark House (1932) - Another great recommendation by @contraryreader, who you’ll see pop up with more recommendations today. This is high up on my wishlist. I have a passion for true crime and crime investigations, so this book seems like one i'd love. Oh! and this book was also written by Patton Oswalt's late wife, Michelle McNamara. We love Patton Oswalt's comedy, and when I heard about his wife's passing I was so intrigued to find out that she wrote this book! I cannot wait to read it soon!📚 . . "A masterful true crime account of the Golden State Killer-- the elusive serial rapist turned murderer who terrorized California for over a decade-- from Michelle McNamara, the gifted journalist who died tragically while investigating the case." . . #illbegoneinthedark #michellemcnamara #book #books #read #reading #bookworm #books #truecrime #truecrimebooks #truecrimeauthors #bookstoread #bookstore #bookshop #booksamillion #readingisfun #bookshelf #bookobsessed #bookhoarder #booktography #bookaesthetic #aesthetic #bookphotos #bookshelves #thrillernovels #mysterynovels #horrornovels #funtimes #tbr #tbrshelf

THE BAD SEED by William March - A mother slowly realizes that her seemingly sweet and innocent child, who is a pro at manipulation, has committed a heinous act. - Coming off the heals of the last post, we have another excellent evil child story. There’s nothing creepier and more unsettling than a child that thinks and acts like an adult! Let me know in the comments if you’ve read this! Also, let me know what your favorite creepy/evil kid is in film or books. - First Published: April 1954 This novel influenced: The Bad Seed (1956) The Bad Seed (1985) television movie The Bad Seed (2018) television movie Eli Roth has also said he’s doing a remake of this that will be a “new take with a modern horror sensibility” and that he is going to “bastardize and exploit” the source material. I’m not sold on this personally. I guess we’ll see how it all plays out. - While I’m recommending The Bad Seed today, @onedarkally has also sent in a recommendation for a more modern approach to the theme in this novel. She recommends you read MY SISTER ROSA by Justine Larbalestier. In case you missed it in the earlier post today, @onedarkally has one of the spookiest pages on IG and is great at recommending a good book! After a worldwide hiccup yesterday, we’re BACK with the rest of #sonofthe13th (on the 14th) - First up today: REBECCA by Daphne du Maurier - A young woman who is swept off her feet by Maxim de Winter, a man twice her age and a widower. She marries him and he takes her to his mansion estate, Manderley. Rebecca soon realizes that the former Mrs. DeWinter was such a force, that her memory is still very much in every inch of the mansion. - This is actually the only book in this list today that isn’t really horror. It’s often lumped into the genre because it’s a Hitchcock film and there are also some true horrors in the plot, but it’s very much a spooky, dramatic mystery. However you label it, it’s an excellent novel and Hitchcock did an excellent job of portraying it. Let me know in the comments if you’ve read this. Are you a fan of du Maurier? - First Published: 1938 This novel influenced: Alfred Hitchcock’s Rebecca (1940) Kohra (1964) Bollywood film Anamika (2008) Bollywood film Rebecca (1979) BBC television series Rebecca (1997) BBC television series In 2018 Netflix announced they were developing an adaptation directed by Ben Wheatley - Another great recommendation by @contraryreader, who you’ll see pop up with more recommendations today. 👽 NOTA: 4.5/5
