Positive vs. Negative . I used to think of healthy eating as an expense...the same category as my entertainment budget and my beauty budget. . Now, I see it as an investment. Something I need to help me live a long, positive, and healthy life. . Yes, processed food is cheaper. Yes, fast food can be cheaper and convenient in the moment but it’s not over time. I challenge you to take a good look at how much you spend on eating out in a month. . I used to make the excuse that I couldn’t afford to eat healthy but when I looked at how much I was spending on eating out...I realized I was lying to myself 🙈. . To make things worse, I’d buy healthy food and a lot of it would go bad because I would be too tired to prep the food. That’s until I invested my time in meal prep. . Eating healthy, meal prepped food saved me money because I was no longer eating out 3 or MORE times a week. . Why else is it an investment? I value my health. Eating healthy is hard. Working out is hard. A healthy lifestyle is hard... . BUT so is being overweight not being able to take part in activities. So is suffering from diseases that can be prevented through health eating and exercise. So is suffering from mental illness. . Too many times we take our health for granted until it’s too late. . What we eat and drink can help fight disease or cause disease. I chose to focus on eating healthy most of the time and indulge in treats here and there. . I am worth the investment and don’t view my health as an expense🌱💗

It’s not easy, especially if you are naturally a person that thinks the worst (this is me)...but where has that gotten you lately? . What is one thing in your life in this very moment that has you thinking negatively? Now, try changing that to a positive... . For me, it’s a 20 page grad paper I have due at the beginning of April. . First thought...I am not good enough to write this paper and I’m going to hate writing it. Now, I’ll change it to a positive: I am going to learn a lot about myself during the process of writing this paper and I’m going to enjoy the process. . See the difference? . Can anyone else relate?? 😂 ⠀ -⠀ As much as I'm all about being zen, present - yes, even in the middle of Manhattan, I totally have those moments that I'm like alright, I love what I do, but nope, time to go to the gym/read a book/chase cat around the house. Sometimes that extra french fry or cookie, wild night out on the town where you need a day to recover, extra hour at the gym, or spontaneous trip is what you need to do your best work afterwards. ⠀ -⠀ We know stress is bad- it jacks up a hormone called cortisol which can add weight straight to our abdomen as receptors are super sensitive there, and with that it also brings sugar into our system so now our pancreas has to pump out insulin in order to take it into our cells for energy- too much insulin tends to be reflective in those 'love handles.' ⠀ -⠀ Our hormones get wacky, as our body prioritizes making cortisol instead of progesterone (a hormone that helps keep us calm), and testosterone and estrogen can drop as our body is seeing us just run from a bear instead of wanting to rest/digest/reproduce. Oh but don't worry, estrogen may still be elevated because testosterone can turn into estrogen (especially thanks to fat cells), or from all the crap in the environment & our beauty/cleaning products. ⠀ -⠀ Yet we need stress to survive. ⚡️ So I never posted this cuz I thought my face looked horrible. It doesn't even look that bad, but then, All I could see was my acne. Spending some well needed rest days over this long weekend helped me recharge my batteries. Having said that doesn't mean I did not put in my sessions at the gym, in reality I work more on days off (yes, working my derriere off these past weeks/months but cannot reveal anything as yet) I cannot wait to share all this goodness with you in the coming months. It’s no secret that fried food isn’t good for you. But a new study published in The BMJ details exactly how eating these foods may affect your health over time. Fried food consumption is associated with overall mortality. Researchers looked at about 20 years’ worth of data for almost 107,000 older women in the U.S., ages 50-79. Their health was tracked by researchers until 2017, and during that time more than 31,500 people died. Those who reported eating at least one serving of fried food per day had about an 8% higher chance of dying early, compared to women who said they did not eat any, according to the study. They also had a 8% higher chance of dying specifically from cardiovascular disease. I’ve cut out happiness from my life...doesn’t sound fun does it? I DEFINITELY won’t be doing that SO WHY ARE YOU?!?! . That’s essentially what you are doing when you start diets that completely eliminate or strongly restriction sugar and carbs. . Are you following a keto diet for health reasons or because you want to lose weight quickly? For most people I know, it’s the later. . It’s def the latest fad in the diet world but it’s been around for almost 100 years. Its even been used to treat drug resistant epilepsy is children. . Ever heard of or tried the Atkin’s diet? Dr. Atkins popularized his very-low-carbohydrate diet for weight loss that began with a very strict two-week ketogenic phase. . What is Keto? . Its a diet that causes the body to release ketones into the bloodstream. Instead of using stored sugar, people following a Keto diet will start to use stored fat as energy. The breaking down of fat is called ketone bodies (the process is called ketosis). Once you reach ketosis, most cells will use ketone bodies to generate energy (that is until we start eating carbohydrates again!!!!). . This shift usually happens over two to four days of eating fewer than 20 to 50 grams of carbohydrates per day (But this is a highly individualized process! Some people will need a more restricted diet to start producing enough ketones). . A keto diet is rich in proteins and fats because it lacks carbs. . Keto is: . 👎🏼 so restrictive, it is really hard to follow over the long run. Previous research shows good evidence of a faster weight loss when patients go on a keto. You can eat and eat and eat and always be hungry if you’re consuming foods that aren’t serving you properly. The cleaner your system gets, the less you need to take in to feel full and satisfied. The better your absorption is, the more alive you feel on the simplest foods. I never thought I could survive on fruit for breakfast. I would laugh at that and go searching for eggs or oatmeal. But the body adjusts, and happily 😊 This is what it wants. Happy World Sleep Day!!!! . I celebrated allowing myself to sleep in til 7am instead of getting up at 5am 😃. . Thursday nights, I have my grad class and do not get home until late to begin with. Last night was even later as they were doing maintenance on the skytrain and this delayed the trains. My class was over at 9:30pm but I didn’t get home until 10:45🙈 . Sleep is such an important part of our health...epecially woman’s!!!! . Here are some nerdy 🤓 but important facts for you...can u tell I’m a teacher and a student 😜??? . Did you know that recent research shows women need more sleep than men? One of the reasons for this is amount of multi-tasking we do is mentally and emotionally draining!. . Did you know Sleep Deprivation has a dramatic impact on our hunger horomones???? . That’s right!!! Lack of sleep can cause us to gain weight!!! . When you don't get enough sleep, you end up with too little leptin in your body (the hormone that tells your brain it’s full) so your body beings to store the calories you eat as fat so you'll have enough energy the next time you need it. . The decrease in leptin brought on by sleep deprivation can result in a constant feeling of hunger and a general slow-down of your metabolism. . People who don't sleep enough end up with too much ghrelin (tells your brain when you need to eat, when it should stop burning calories and when it should store energy as fat), so the body thinks it's hungry and it needs more calories, and it stops burning those calories because it thinks there's a shortage. . Lack of sleep also increases cortisol levels (one of the body’s stress hormones) which increases appetite and signals the body to shift metabolism to store fat. . NONE of this is good for us!!! 🙅🏻‍♀️ Need a better sleep? Here are some tips 😃. . 🛌 Buy removable black out stickers for electronics and small digital lights. You can find these on Amazon!! . 🛌 Turn off the screens and wind down for several minutes before bedtime. . 🛌 Set a bedtime alarm and put electronics into downtime mode overnight. . 🛌 Avoid caffeine after 2 PM . Is it obtaining all the degrees in the world? Is it being the richest person on earth? Is it being famous? Philippians 3:12-14 says: “Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.
