#meetthemaker "how you got started":
Some of you have been following my Instagram feed for 8 years! 8 years ago I started this truck. I bought it blue and rusted @catherinetothfox (you remember what that looked like) and an auto body shop taught me how to bodywork the truck to get it into decent condition. I did the work myself because I didn't have any money to pay someone to do it. And the shop was beyond kind to lend me their knowledge and tools. I think they were also just intrigued that I would even try to do something like that. My brother taught me how to put together cabinets so I built cabinets from @reusehawaii
Free pieces of a broken down cubicles. I didn't even know how to operate a drill before all this.
Once I was done building which tested every ounce of determination I possessed, little did I know I was in for more. I didn't realize how difficult it is to do farmers markets and operate on the street with parking limitations and make everything myself and shuttle ingredients to a commercial kitchen and handle all the social media, marketing and finances. Trust me, this is not normal human behavior, but that's what entrepreneurship is.
Then a year later I went through all the odd and stressful times of building a store. Here are some images to show you the journey. Having a store meant now on top of everything else I had to learn how to hire employees, train them, set up systems for them and the whole company, check them. Even to this day, I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing and teaching myself off of youtube tutorials 50% of the time. I just built another store #viaward two years ago. I thought it would be easy with the same team and I've done it before. So wrong. It was even harder.
If you ever feel weird or small because you don't know what you're doing, I feel you! I've been doing this for 8 years and am still learning. That's how I started and I am learning that's how it goes...there's really never a finished point where everything is 👌. But I can say without a doubt, I can learn ANYTHING.
