Today was my last day of flying solo... both my kids return home from their adventures away over the next couple of days, and I can’t wait to give them a big hug (not so keen for the giant pile of washing that follows them home though) 🙈 So this morning I slept in #hallelujah 😴🙌🏼 I did some grocery shopping by myself - I actually REALLY like shopping when I’m not rushed and little people don’t keep asking for ‘extras’ 🙄 #mumlife Plus I took one of my lovely clients for a swimming lesson - hence my fab oversized animal print bag from @ezibuy in the pic. How about a hug? 💗 I recently read a study (TIME, 2018) about the effects of hugging on the body & mind. We all know that sometimes we just need a hug, but do we know just what good a hug actually does? TIME (2018) found that hugging increases positive feelings and reduces negative ones (regardless if factors including gender, age, race, marital status, average mood, number of social interactions). Why? SOCIAL SUPPORT 👭 Social support is beneficial in stressful situations and promotes adaptive physiological responses. Physical touch can prompt beneficial physiological changes in the body such as reductions in the stress-related brain, reductions in stress-related heart activity, and prompting the release of the mood-enhancing hormone, oxytocin. So how about giving someone a hug today?! For social support & altering the body's physiological response to stress (we all have a lot of stress in our modern day lives). Other studies are needed to look at hugging specifically but this first insight shows much 💗 I'd you're interested in the body's response to stress, I'm currently reading "why zebras don't get ulcers" by Robert Sapolsky, and I can definitely recommend it. 🇪🇸⬇️ Apple bread Ingredients 🍚1 cup oat flour 🍚1 cup wholemeal flour 🍯1 tsp honey 🧂2 tsp baking powder 🧂1/2 tsp baking soda 🧂1/2 tsp salt 🥄2 tsp ground cinnamon 🥛1/2 cups almond milk or whatever milk you like 🍎1/3 cup apple sauce 🥚1 large egg 🍏1 green apple in peeves • • Method • • 1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray an inch loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.🍞 2. In a large bowl, add the oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt,  cinnamon and the apples. Mix until well combined.🥖 3. In a medium bowl, add the milk, apple sauce and egg. Whisk until well combined.🥣 4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined and all of the flour is moistened. 🥣 5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 45-55 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the centre of the bread should come out with moist crumbs, but no raw batter. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan. WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?! Let's face it, we all have them, yes ALL OF US! Excuses are what stop us from where we are now to where we want to be. They stop us from progression, from growth, and from living a happy successful life! So, what excuses are you telling yourself throughout the day? Let me guess the first one - hitting that snooze button for the 5th time won't make a difference. Right? WRONG! Repeatedly hitting the snooze button costs you time! Time which you don't have, which then causes you to run around like a maniac trying to get ready for the day ahead. On top of this you've got your morning commute meaning you're stressed before you day has even begun! Unless you are super organised and have everything ready to go the night before, that snooze button is NOT gunna be your friend lol How bout this one? - "I'll have to buy my lunch today, I'll be good tomorrow". Not being prepared with food quite simply means you have free reign to buy whatever the heck you want. Now unless you have the strongest willpower known to man, you will be tempted to go for a more unhealthy option than you would have otherwise. We kid ourselves that one day wont hurt, and it won't! However that 4th day might! "I'm too tired, I literally couldn't handle the gym tonight" - Who's been guilty of this excuse. I know I have! So you go home, have a quick nap with the intention of going to the gym later. Next thing it's 9pm and you're still in bed! There's always tomorrow eh?! "I'll do it tomorrow" Will you? Really? I used to say this all the time thinking I was in control and that I'll do things in my own time. When in reality I never scheduled time to get these "tomorrow" things done, so guess what? They never got done. What excuses are you telling yourself? In order to stop letting yourself away with excuses, say your goal out loud, or write them down. Seeing your goals in front of you allows you to see why it is you're doing what you're doing. Be accountable - don't let your excuses win!! NO MORE GREEDY GIRL! . This was me over 22 years ago, and it’s been one hell of a journey for mind and body to arrive where I am today! . One of the things I often get asked is “how long did it take you?” And if I say “22 years” 🤷‍♀️ people become disappointed because I know what they’re really asking is “how long would it take me to get the same result?” most people want the quick result and ignore the fact that YES we can take care of the physical aspects of losing weight - drop the calories & do the exercise but the MENTAL side takes sooooooo much longer because of who we perceive ourselves to be and that’s programming that’s been going on for YEARS!! . So 22 years is a long time but what if for a lot of that time I’d kept telling myself - “I’M GREEDY - I have to have a lot of food to fill me up” do you think that that statement RIGHT THERE would be enough to sabotage myself AGAIN & AGAIN & AGAIN? . Because THAT’S the truth, I come from a family that LOVES their food and I always remember seeming to need more food than my naturally slim friends at school so I labelled myself as GREEDY, so I lived into that reality. . I have dropped more than 100lbs in total but wasn’t reconditioning my mind to say “I’M NORMAL” 😊 . Q: If you’re on a weight loss journey.... what is your self talk? Is it positive or negative, supportive or sabotaging? These chocolate orange porridge bars are a perfect on the go breakfast for kids and adults alike. Packed with good fuel they are great to carry around as a snack or share some over a cup of tea or coffee. 
Ingredients - 1 cup oats - 1 cup oranges - 3 tablespoons plant based organic cocoa powder - 1 cup dairy free milk (I used oat) - 1/2 cup date syrup - Orange rind #Method Simple blitz all the ingredients except the rind in a mixer. Add the orange rind in after. Then spread it on a baking tray and pop it into the oven for 20 minutes.
