MARSHA SONGCOME 💎
Marsha was the original Schuyler sister standby in the West End. She is Swedish and has Thai ancestry. I think she speaks four languages, which is superhuman. Despite not being completely fluent in English, she was amazingly able to memorize three tracks, including Angelica’s rap in Satisfied!
During her run, she only went on as Eliza and Peggy/Maria, although she did a cover run as Angelica. She left the show, about five months before the official cast change, to play Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame in Sweden. Sharon Rose took her place as standby.
She has such a beautiful voice! I appreciate how she never tried to copy Rachelle or Christine, but added her own style to each role. Plus, major props to her American accent, it’s excellent and she rarely slips.
She performs a very nice Eliza, super cute and bubbly, and with lots of unique riffs (especially in Helpless)! She seems to change up her riffs for every show, too. Be sure to listen for her signature “he-ELP-less” in this post’s audio.
In addition to Hamilton, Marsha’s other West End credits include u/s Jasmine in Aladdin and Gigi in the Miss Saigon revival. In Miss Saigon, she originally understudied for Rachelle Ann Go (the original West End Eliza), then replaced her in the role of Gigi. She continued to play Gigi on the UK Tour of Miss Saigon. In Sweden, she has performed in Miss Saigon and as Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She also performed in a pre-Broadway tryout of Aladdin in Denmark.
