“Let there be light!”☀️ The poetry and subtle grandeur of Grundtvigs Kirke (Grundtvig’s Church). Sublime brick-masonry & architecture by P.V.Jensen Klint (construction finished in 1940 by his son, Kaare Klint)- I stood there in silent awe. 🙌🏻🇩🇰 #simplydivine #grundtvigskirken #danskarkitektur #copenhagen #nationalromanticism #brickwork #danisharchitecture #sublime #scandinavian #heritage #expressionism #architecture #wonderspaces #stayandwonder #minimalisme #cathedral #culturalheritage #densmukkeste #totalawesomeness #paintingwithlight #iphonephotography #wonderfulcopenhagen #awe #🇩🇰 at Copenhagen

Vine Leaves Crucifixion group In the porch of Grundtvig's church... designed by the church's architect P.V.Jensen Klint (1853-1930) and carved in teak by his daughter Helle Klint Bentsen (1887-1969). This Crucifixion is full of symbolism. It is not a horribly painful Crucifixion - Jesus looks like a sleeping young man, he is not tied or nailed, but holds his body in crucifixion position against a cross, which is surrounded by a sun halo and the sunlight turn into vines that grow on the cross of Christ. The sun halo is a symbol of the resurrection of Christ and Jesus even uses the vine as a symbol of Himself, saying “I am the vine and you are the branches" ( John 15,5. ). Besides the cross are standing a man and a woman, but they are not obviously Maria and Johannes. They look like peasants and symbolizes the people who believe in Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. Easter is the foundation of the Christian faith, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb three days after his crucifixion. Through his death, he has given the gift of eternal life in heaven to those who believe in his death and resurrection. Happy Easter to All! #teak #grundtvigskirken #bispebjerg #danishchurches #vineleaves #crucifixion #cross #resurrection #easter #påske #jesus #artworks #danishartist #christianity #christianart #religion #visitcopenhagen #copenhagenview #cozycopenhagen #copenhagensecrets #loves-united-copenhagen #scandinavia #visitdenmark #opdagdenmark #loves-united-denmark #beautifuldenmark #total-denmark #travel #traveleurope #travelguide at Grundtvigs Kirke

Grundtvig’s Church (Grundtvigskirken) is an impressive monument located in Copenhagen. This church is often referred to as a gothic cathedral. It was constructed by main architect, P.V. Jensen-Klint and his son, Kaare Klint, who completed the project after his father passed away. The grandchild of P.V. Jensen-Klint, architect Esben Klint, drew the ornamentation of the church, including the organ facade as well as chandeliers and choir stand. Apart from architecture the Klint family had a keen interest in lighting and hand-folded lamp shades. Architect and master of engineering, P.V. Jensen-Klint folded the very first LE KLINT lamp shade to fit a paraffin lamp he also designed. His son, the famous architect and professor, Kaare Klint, who in addition to having drawn up well-known designs for LE KLINT, was also of great importance to the history of Danish furniture and design. His son, Esben Klint, also did an important work for LE KLINT. #leklint #grundtvigskirken #grundtvigschurch #craftsmanship #danishdesign #leklintlighting #thestoryofleklint

Let's start this Monday by appreciating this uniquely styled church, #Grundvigskirken. Designed by Jensen-Klint, the church was completed in 1940. The architecture of the church is the example of brick expressionism (showcasing external design of the building by bricks) , which gained popularity in 20th century. Klint mixed old gothic style design with modern and used yellow bricks to match with the neighboring buildings Year completed:1940 Location: Bispebjerg, Copenhagen, Denmark . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #visitdenmark #grundtvigskirken #church #summer18 #livefromcph #d5300 #nikonphotography #nikond5300 #visiteurope #dawndotcom #etribune #voyaged #lensbible #copenhagen #visitcopenhagen #visit_europe #nikonshot #nikonshotz_ @copenhagenbible #photooftheday #instaarchitecture #danishdesign #scandinavianarchitecture #visitscandinavia at Grundtvigs Kirke

Have you read my previous post about the upcoming series on modern churches? Well, here is the first one (which you may have seen in my feed here and there): This is the mind-blowingly expressionistic Grundtvigskirken (Grundtvigs church) named after Danish philosopher and parson Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundtvig located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint won an architecture competition in 1913 and the construction finally began some years after World War I in 1921. The main part of the church was completed by 1927. Unfortunately Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint died in 1930 and wasn’t able to complete the last parts of the church and the surrounding residential buildings. Again, it was his son Kaare Klint, who completed his father‘s work. It consists of six million yellow bricks. The #bethlehemskirken which I’ve posted some time ago tells the same sad story and looks like a little version of this one. Can you find my photos of the Grundtvigskirken in my feed? :) #interwarmodernism #grundtvigskirken #backsteinexpressionismus #brickexpressionism #bricks #grundtvigskirke #nordicarchitecture #scandinavianarchitecture #copenhagen #københavn #kobenhavn #kopenhagen #køpenhavn #bispebjerg #copenhague #danisharchitecture #danishdesign #arkitektur #denemarken #denmark #danemark #dänemark #scandinaviandesign #copenhagenarchitecture #cph #cphpicks #copenhagenlife #denmark🇩🇰 #igersdenmark at Copenhagen

Impressive modern danish Church masterpiece... This church was built in honor to the famous danish priest and hymn writer N.F.S. Grundtvig (8.9.1773-2.9.1872), who also is regarded as the founder of the folk high school. N.F.S. Grundtvig's significance for Denmark was so great that this marvellous church project from the danish architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint (1853-1930) was chosen in art competition among other memorial objects, such as sculptures, statues or memorial columns, even though it would cost much more. The foundation stone was laid on N.F.S. Grundtvig's birthday in 1921 and the church was inaugurated 19 years later, obviously on N.F.S. Grundtvig's birthday in 1940, completed by Klint's son Kaare Klint. Grundtvigskirken is a rare example of expressionist church architecture. Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint mixed the strong vertical gothic architecture with the ornamental forms of brick expressionism. The most characteristic sign is the west facade with stepped gables that looks like a cathedral organ. #grundtvigskirken #grundtvig #church #bispebjerg #architecture #architektur #danisharchitecture #danishchurches #modernarchitecture #architects #brickbuilding #total_churches #architecturelovers #brickexpressionism #architecturephotography #visitcopenhagen #cooenhagenview #cozycopenhagen #copenhagensecrets #loves_united_copenhagen #scandinavia #bestofscandinavia #visitdenmark #opdagdenmark #loves_united_denmark #beautifuldenmark #total_denmark #travel #traveleurope #travelguide at Grundtvigs Kirke
