Happy Tuesday! Why are some kids athletic and others can't seem to achieve even basic sports skills? A lot comes down to natural abilities, but there are things you can do to point them in the right direction!
1. Work on core strength from 3 months and on - We need proximal stability before distal mobility. In other words, if your core is strong, all activities which require your hands or feet will be easier.
2. Play with your kids consistently- Sports can be broken into what we call splinter skills. These are the smallest components of a larger skill, ie, picking up your arm to throw properly. By playing with your child, you will be a dressing splinter skills that apply to numerous sports activities.
3. Find activities your child enjoys- Coordination can be tough for some kids. The more your child enjoys something, the easier it will be to motivate them. So many skills overlap to various sports, so don't worry!!
4. Make it fun!
