Okay to compost, but should I compost? . Even though this scrubber is fully biodegradable as the bristles are made from plant fibre bristles, I wasn't sure about composting it in my @sharewaste hosts' composter. I asked the lovely people of @zerowastevictoria's Facebook group and my suspicions were confirmed - it would take ages to turn into compost. . It was suggested I rather dig a hole and bury it. A good suggestion! Being in an apartment I just needed to find some ground to bury it in. 🤔 Then, someone shared how much worms in worm farms love these! Apparently they use the bristles to clean their bodies and help them lay their cocoons. . Solution found! I'm hanging on to it until we get our worm farm going and giving it to them as a house warming present. 🐛 . If you're on Facebook, look for a local zero waste group to join and if you're in Victoria, Australia, join the Zero Waste Victoria (Australia) Facebook group. On January 12th, 2010, the people of #Haiti were thrown into dismay after an #earthquake of force 7.0 hit the land. The sheer extent of this disaster however was felt in the days following the initial quake as aftershocks of alarming strength (5.5 & 5.9!) beat the already distraught environment. "Haiti had not been hit by an earthquake of such enormity since the 18th century".* The landscape was in ruins. Villages & homes were destroyed & people were injured or killed, leaving " hundreds of thousands of families" displaced.* . The earthquake inspired in Peter Hanley & Peter Gannon a wonderful idea. An idea that resulted in a restoration of faith & hope for the people of Haiti. In 2010 Clowns for Haiti was founded, & has since brought continuous support - & very important - laughter to this country. . As a result of the 2010 tragedy, 3,640 of the 4,000 schools in the region were destroyed. This #charity works to build, restore & resource these important facilities. And as a close friend of my family said to me recently, "the only way out of poverty is through #education". . Since 2016, Clowns for Haiti have been building a school on the hill of Canaan for families who had to relocate up the mountain. This coming September, my sister Roisin (@roisin_Jenkinson) & her boyfriend Charles (@goldingsky), with the help of some other clowns, will be assisting with the opening of this school - ensuring the successful integration of #children & staff, & providing fun & games through #creative activities & performances. . This Saturday February 16th (6.30pm @ St. Catherine's Church, Dublin), will be an Evening of Entertainment to raise funds for the school.
