Healthy Thanksgiving side dish Loaded Cauliflower Bake Ingredients 1 medium cauliflower, cut into florets 2 cloves garlic minced 1 Β½ tbsp olive oil 1 cup almond milk 1 Β½ tbsp arrowroot flour 1/3 cup paleo approved store-bought or homemade mayonnaise 4 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled 1 tbsp chopped parsley salt, black pepper to taste Directions Preheat oven to 350Β°F. Blanch cauliflower in a large pot of boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain well and set aside. To make the sauce in a skillet heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the arrowroot flour and stir until golden. Add the milk and bring to a low simmer, stirring until combined. Stir in the mayonnaise and season with salt and pepper. Add drained cauliflower and toss to combine. Transfer the mixture into a casserole dish. Bake for 30 minutes. It's no secret I love #boxing. One of my major interests is bareknuckle boxing and learning from the 18th century texts that exist. Part of what sold me on the Y membership is that they have old school equipment and a corner of the gym set up with a heavy bag and a speed bag. Todays workout opened with a 4 km row. Then it was #legday:squats, extensions, curls, and calf raises. This was followed by a 10 minute abs routine: ab roller, v sits with a medicine ball twists, flutter kicks, and then cat-cow. Then off to the boxing corner. 30 minutes on the heavy bag. Threw some kicks in as well. Mostly straight snap kicks down the middle. Ended the workout with 15 to 20 minutes of dribbling and shooting basketball. Total workout time. 1 hour 50 minutes. Pay in sweat, and get what you want out of life. Today I weighed in at 229. The Chelsea Jersey is a full size smaller than my other workout clothes. I can wear a large shirt now, for the first time since high school. I look tubby because the shirt is tighter. And yes, I root for Man United, but my gym clothes come from charity shops because I don't see a point in buying new until I'm at my target and maintenance weight. Set goals and then smash them in the face. I made 30 consecutive skips of the rope today, which is a new record for me. I rowed for 15 solid minutes. Its exhausting, but it is effective. No other PRs today, but I did pay with sweat. Like I said before you gotta pay with sweat. If you're not willing to pay the price, you won't see results. You have to watch your diet. You have to put in the time with whatever program you're working for fitness. You'll see magic pills, and fad diets, but its bullshit. The only way to get what you want is to put the work in. Fortunes are made and lost by people who are trying to sell snake oil. They promise abs in 20 days by taking a pill, or drop 10 pounds via liver detox. It's all snake oil and hoodoo. Instead of looking for the easy route, choose the hard road. Pay with sweat and earn every pound dropped. We pay in sweat. There is no magic pill, and yet all magic has a price. The magic I want, the lower body fat, the better endurance, these things cost blood, sweat, and tears. I'm all in on making myself better. Is it hard? You're damned right it is. There is nothing easy about going from 300 pounds to 230ish, and wanting to push through that to something even smaller. Eating habits are hard for me. I love to sneak little extras throughout the day. They're horrible for me, but I'm weak when it comes to some vices. Fitness and the kitchen start hard core next week, so that I can try to trim up to the next target weight. Big boy picking up heavy things. New deadlift PR is 2 lbs over my morning weigh in. Working hard at the Y, trying to get my body whipped into the shape I want. At this point, I no longer see a 600 lb man I never was, but appreciate myself at 230, but want the old beer gut to get erased. My heaviest was 301 lbs. But I might as well been 600 for how I felt about myself. Body dysmorphia is totally a thing for guys, but I'm happy I can be working out of it. My current target weight is 205, which is the mma light heavyweight max. At my height, I will reassess at 205 and determine where I'm at. Eating out does not have to sabotage your healthy eating regimen. However, you need a plan and some tips. πŸ˜‰ 1. BE WISE IN YOUR RESTAURANT CHOICE. Today restaurants offer many low calorie options and even low glycemic ones too ( brown rice instead of white). Choose a restaurant that you know has items that are within your plan. Hint: Mexican, Italian and Chinese are much harder to find a clean plate. 2. DO NOT "SAVE UP" CALORIES BEFORE YOUR MEAL OUT. This is trouble! It will cause you to eat more than you normally would. Stick to your regular meal plan and do not skip any meals. (I often have a shake an hour or two before so I don't go overboard on the carbs/ portions.) 3. BE DELIBERATE WHEN ORDERING. It's quite okay to be picky as you choose your entree and ask the server to double the vegetables, hold the oil, add extra protein etc. Also, don't spend too much time studying the menu. Open the menu and seek the healthy items right away avoiding salivating over the bad ones and making a poor choice. 😜 4. CONTROL PORTIONS. Stick to the portion size that you would normally eat. Portions can be quite large but sometimes restaurants (especially in salads) don't offer enough protein. It's okay to ask for more. 5. EAT SLOWLY. It takes approximately 20 minutes for your brain to get the message from your stomach that you are no longer hungry. Fast eaters are usually over eaters. 6. ASK THE SERVER TO CLEAR YOUR TABLE WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED. Sometimes when the food just sits there it's easy to continue to keep eating especially if the portions are big. 7. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER BEFORE AND AFTER THE MEAL. Dehydration can be confused with hunger. Keep your water intake high and do your best to not drink DURING your meal. When you do so you are washing away the digestive enzyme that helps your digestive system do its thing. 8. NEVER STUFF YOURSELF. Post workout photo with my biggest cheerleader and daresay biggest fan. I feel better and lighter. Not sure if it shows. Down 70 from my heaviest, and down 20 this cycle. Running is the hard part for me. But I'm working on it and getting better at it. Ran 2.52 miles in 30 minutes. It was track work, but it was a struggle. Did it anyway. Getting it done. Today, I learned that the jump rope is a humbling experience and a device for one who truly hates themself. I'm determined to master this infernal device. 7 jumps is my current PR. This is unacceptable and as such will be broken shortly. Heavy bag work is still my favorite. Nothing quite like throwing Mexican liver shot after Mexican liver shot into an inanimate object and dumping the frustration of a work day out. The speed bag is still a mystery to me.
