ਸਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ
(Sat Sri Akal)
We visited the Golden temple after years of wishing and looking at the mesmerising beauty in Bollywood movies and books.
We entered the temple premises in the morning, only to find ourselves awestruck with the divine rays reflecting off the golden dome and we felt blessed.
Also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, the temple gives peace and awakening of the conscience.
Sikhism is based on the following three tenets, which are known as Three Pillars of Sikhism:
Naam Japna: Keeping God in mind at all
times. Free service (sewa), meditation and
prayer (simran), sacred music (kirtan). Kirat Karni: Honest earning, labour etc. while
remembering the God.
Vand Chakna: Share with others, free food
(langar), donate 10% of income i.e. dasvand.
After bowing to the Takht and the temple, we went to the Langar Hall for our meals, where we were served delicious Kadhi, Roti (Prasada), Rice and Kheer. It wouldn't be a hyperbole if we said that it was(is) the best food in the world. Langar (free food) is distributed with the motive of feeding the hungry. On an average, approximately 75,000 persons are fed here each day.
