Day 1 | 19-Aug-2018 | The Kickoff and the shelter hunt
148 KM Bus ride, 6 KM Walk | Sati Ghat, Gorkha
It was late when I took the bus from Kathmandu Bus Park to Dumre of Tanahu. I was late because my family organized the see off rituales. It was 5:00 PM when I started walking from Dumre. Did first paint after crossing the bridge.
The backpack was real heavy. I started sweating vigorously. I was taking shortcuts to avoid the highway. After doing almost 5KM, I crossed the bridge over the Marsyangdi river and decided to walk the other side of river. Soon after, it started to get dark and hence I started asking for shelter on multiple homes on the way. Some said they don't have space and some even worried to give camping space. After 5-6 attempts, one old couple seemed okay to let me sleep on their eaves(पिढि). My shoulder and foot can now breath fresh air.
Grandma was cooking inside and the locals already gathered to know about me. They were reciting some old incidence of traveller, who robbed some houses. Oh no, what a mistrust! I tried to assure them by explaining about my plan. Later they gave me a room on a house being built on earthquake relief. This room has open doors and windows but it is warm. Which I am hoping will cool down later at night. Anyway, I know I will fall asleep soon.
First night out and on a door less room, I have my self defence equipment (whistle, head light, pocket knife & spray paint) ready, in case I need to defend myself. My camera, wallet, and other electronics will also be on my side. Before falling asleep, I have to take diary, keep a daily record and will filter the photo gallery. In the meantime I thought of giving this kind grandma some money for giving food and shelter so that the mistrust over travellers could probably ease out a bit.
See you at the same time tomorrow... #nepaltrip #nepal #nepalnow #relive #trip #travel #trekking #travelnepal #flashback #travelstories #memories #nomad #nomaddream
