July 30th, 2012. 🖤. That’s when the first photograph was taken. It almost feels like a whole lifetime ago. . . Way back when I still lived with my mom, and before I met the man who lifted me up to my highest potential (my lovely hubby). When I look back at photos like this, I cry a little inside. . . I spent so many years simply existing. I didn’t really have goals, I just really wanted to fit in with my peers. High school was really hard for me. I was bullied, and didn’t even go to prom because of all the hate. This was one year post graduation. This was one year of not having people shame me for my size. This is when I started to feel like I could maybe be beautiful. . . If I could go back to this Ariel, and tell her what her life would be like in 7 years, I would! She needed to hear how positive the changes would be. She would have fought harder to win all her battles if she knew. I don’t blame her. I actually thank her all the time for never giving up. . . Unlike most people, I had absolutely no background in anything “flexibility” related when walking into my first yoga class. . To be honest I could barely touch my toes, let alone my knees. . Sometimes I have to work twice as hard to improve my flexibility - waking up to stretch my hips every. single. day. . I used to avoid doing things I considered myself “bad” at. COMO PERDER GORDURA? Se exercitar na zona de queima de gordura, ou queimar muitas calorias, não são abordagens eficientes para o emagrecimento. Além disso, o discurso simplista de que “basta gastar mais calorias que consumir”, não tem produzido muitos resultados práticos. Tanto que o número de pessoas fazendo dieta nos EUA mais que quadruplicou nos últimos 50 anos (Montani et al. 2015) e o sedentarismo caiu, mas a obesidade não para de subir e mais de 2/3 deles estão acima do peso. No Brasil, houve aumento de 47% da quantidade de obesos entre 2006 e 2013 (Malta et al., 2016). A chance de uma pessoa com IMC acima de 40 voltar ao peso normal é de míseros 0,08%, ou seja, 1 em 1270 (Fildes et al., 2015). Isso tudo apesar dos sabichões dizerem que emagrecer é matemática simples. . A questão não é discutir a importância do déficit energético, a questão é reconhecer que o metabolismo se adapta. Na Nutrição tem-se percebido que a qualidade dos alimentos pode ser mais importante que a quantidade de calorias. No campo do exercício, as atividades intensas parecem ser mais eficientes. E a reposta parece estar em “como” fazer o treino. Com essa moda do HIIT, há muitos protocolos mal feitos e mal controlados. Last night’s workout was sooooo good!! I started with 30lbs for the lawnmower tower but did my last two set’s with 35’s!! And I was so happy that I did 44lbs for all of the kettlebell shoulder presses! Seeing so many positive changes in my body and loving this journey!
