Here are some tips for a successful grocery haul!
📖 Pre-plan your recipes for the week
✏️ Go with a list in hand
🛒 Start with a smaller cart. If you get a bigger cart, you’ll be more likely to fill it (possibly with things you don’t need).
🥦 Start in the fresh foods section! You’ll be more likely to fill your cart with healthy, fresh fruits and veggies. By the time you pass the snacks, your cart will already be well-stocked
🚫 Stay away from the isles with the foods you’re trying to avoid. Trying to cut down on sugar? Steer clear of the candy isle!! Cutting alcohol? Walk away from the wine section. Don’t even give yourself that temptation.
💰 Only buy enough for about 1 week! This will help your budget and the environment by eliminating food waste.
🥜 If portion control is an issue for you, buy things in single-serving packets, or pre-portion it into baggies when you get home. You might be surprised how small a serving truly is.
⚖️ Always stop by the bulk section first and see if any items you need are in stock! Food sold in bulk is typically cheaper than packaged shelf food, and it’s usually fresher, too!
Eating healthy is good for your mind and body, and actually can be a lot cheaper/easier to do than most people think! It’s so easy to get carried away at the grocery store and impulse buy your heart out (I’ve been there), but these tips have helped me stay on track!
