Many years ago it was discovered that I had a hole in my septum (atrial septal defect), which is a type of congenial heart defect.👎🏽 On top of this condition I also got diagnosed with asthma.👎🏽 I was told I may not survive, that I wouldn’t be able to keep up to the other kids, I’d possibly be sick very often and that I most likely couldn’t play sports. Well I overcame the odds and today I’m stronger then ever.💪🏽💫 With a badass as scar and a pack of puffers (lol)😄 it’s both humbling and a constant reminder of how fitness can totally be taken for granted. I’m appreciative that I can play (and love) soccer, competed in track & field, can run marathons, I can lift weights, I can hike and nothing holds me back. Inspired by @tronkster (Well done by the way👌)and still on a high from my 10k PB yesterday I decided to have a bash at my 5k today. Set off really well, breathing ok, slightest niggle in my calf (which I ignored) 2 miles came and went and I knew it was on... then boom! Calf felt huge and started to cramp and I had to stop. I'm disappointed of course but not downbeat, if anything it has made me more determined. Foam roller and a weekend of work will hopefully rest it up for me. Why am i posting? Well my journey has had lows as well as plenty of highs, so it's basically to show that this running lark ain't all sunshine and rainbows... Listen to your mind and listen to your body! 👏It’s the best thing you can do for yourself. The workouts in this new program are 20 minutes, 6 days a week. Today’s special workout was 60 minutes since it’s the last CUT workout in the program. I knew today I couldn’t do it cause I have been sore the last two days in my back and neck. 😱 I knew today it would be best if I did BALANCE which is our Saturday stretch workout. I was waiting for the day where I would feel motivated again. Motivated to be back on a disciplined diet plan and workout plan that made sense with my schedule. Sometimes it takes a few days to recover, some days it can take a few months!!! For me, a few months was well needed to rest physically and mentally 💪. . I got to take a break and not have to worry about rushing to the gym and rush to eat and rush to sleep! Rather, I took my time, did moderate activity when I wanted and I got to read A LOT which trained my mind to view myself and the world in a completely different perspective that has been fuel to my vibes 🤗😁💙. .
