For so long I remained in shades of black and white; my vision obstructed by pastel, muted hues that left my mind weary. But when I met you, I was overwhelmed by a colidascope of bright shades and a rainbow brighter than the day after the clouds have fallen. I saw yellow when the light hit your eyes just right, the glare of it filling my mind with the buzzing of honeybees and the breathy smile of summer. I saw red in the emotions you expressed, the passion that burst like the yawn of an active volcano, the affection as soft as the dew on an early morning rose. I saw green in your laughter, the tones echoing in the expanse of my chest like the whistles of songbirds amongst the trees of an everlasting wood, it seemed almost mythical. I saw blue in the sea of your soul, swimming with life. The vastness of it a riptide that pulls me under with every wave, it is a wonder I don’t drown. I saw you in purple, in the violet of sunsets, the glare of the stars and the light of a salt lamp caressing the curves of your face in the early hours of morning. I saw you in constellations and the crashing of waves of freshly dampened sand. And suddenly the nightshade of my eyes don’t remember what black and white looked like in the first place.
