Let’s be real: Sometimes life is beautiful sunsets with traditional style Japanese farms houses in the background with your darling baby girl. ✨
And sometimes it’s not...Because this is life- not Instagram fairyland. 🤷♀️
And also being in a completely different culture is awkward, confusing, filled with quirks and mishaps. And in hindsight, pretty funny.
For instance: ✨
It’s still difficult to pick up slippery things with chopsticks, and I drop food in the most inopportune places at the worst times.
I can’t read Japanese so I end up pushing buttons I *think* look right when using electronics like the toilet, microwave, washing machine and even bathtub. (The other day I was in a department store and thought I was flushing the toilet but instead pushed the emergency intercom. Oops) 🤦♀️
When I sit on the floor a long time in a certain position my feet and legs fall asleep and I often can’t get up and/ or get up awkwardly. (People ask me if I’m ok.)
I end up saying thank you and apologizing a lot because that’s what I hear people say the most and figure its probably ok in most situations because everyone else is doing it?!
Suffice it to say I’m thankful to capture the beautiful moments. But to show one side that looks picture perfect without at least mentioning the other perspective... well that’s just not real. ✨ at Tokyo, Japan
