March is endometriosis awareness month! Did you know that endometriosis affects approximately 176 million women! It doesn’t discriminate based on social or economic background. It also can not be seen on an exam. So, what does that mean? Speak up! If you have pelvic pain throughout the month, pain with intercourse, or even pelvic discomfort with bowel movements, TELL your healthcare provider! If you have told them and you don’t feel like they are addressing your concerns, get a second opinion. Endometriosis is extremely painful and can also result in infertility if not addressed. The good news, there is relief! Let your healthcare provider know if you suffer from pelvic pain! Any followers with endometriosis? I would love for you to share encouraging stories 💗 #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #womenshealth #infertility #physicianassistant #paschool #pastudent #medschool #nursepractitionerstudent

These two are my absolute world and today i couldn’t be prouder of my daughter. She is currently doing sex education at school. Today she stood up infront of her entire class and explained to them all what a ‘normal period’ was and how her mum wished she had known that severe pain and heavy bleeding is not normal. She told the girls that they should speak up if they are ever worried because periods arent something to be ashamed of and we should all look after ourselves! What a mini endo warrior! #proudaspunch #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #puberty #normal #endowarriors #chronicillness

I asked Kara to participate in Real Talk because her force for life inspires me. She’s a preschool teacher who gives her best every day despite the physical and emotional challenges of endo. She recently bought a house with her fiancé and is getting hitched in August! Congrats, @kara_cat! . . I hope her words and story will help you feel less alone in the tough times. Her story has encouraged me to stand up to endo by living life and enjoying the precious moments, even if those moments are etched with pain. . . When did you first find out you had endo? I was finally diagnosed with Endometriosis on May 15, 2016. From the beginning my periods were especially hard, and everyone just told me I’d get use to it. It took years for me to finally start searching for answers and once I did many doctors wouldn’t even entertain the idea of me being in pain. 11 years and 13 doctors later I’m here. . . What’s your jam? I love to hang out with my girl friends. I have really genuinely awesome and caring friends that make life with a chronic illness more bearable. I also love riding my bike (Bev, named after Beverly Goldberg) to the lake. I also love listening to music or watching trashy reality tv. . . Best tools for dealing with endo? Medical marijuana has been a real life saver for me. Before it I had tried many options including herbal remedies, acupuncture, and laparoscopic surgery. I find a lot of the transdermal gels, mints, and smoking the plant to be most helpful after a long day. For during the day I rely on CBD products, advil, and loose fitting clothes. . . Read the rest of her story in the pictures & leave Kara some 💛 in the comments. Thanks so much for sharing @kara_cat! . . Next week we’ll have a break from RTT as I will be traveling back to the US and have an important appointment with my specialist next week. I plan to share more about it later. We will be discussing how to move forward with my treatment. I am excited and nervous, but so determined to walk out with an answer. . . With Love from Cali, Cat

Day 26 of endometriosis awareness month. Meet my heat packs. Both presents from people who obviously know I need them. Things are much better for the time being but before I started taking amitriptyline I was taking painkillers that didn't work all day and then sticking one of these on my front and one on my back as soon as I got in, despite the fact I'm not having cycles/periods. Before my 20s I didn't think my periods were painful as I thought period pains were only felt in your tummy. I ignored the pain in my back and 'stabbing' up my bum. I also had random sharp abdo/pelvic pain but not often enough to worry me. By 22 it hurt to wear clothes and seatbelts, I had constant aching in my life side and when I had periods it actually felt I had damaged my spine and had waves of pain in my tummy that meant I couldn't move. Luckily I haven't had to go to A&E for morphine etc. so far. In 2014 I was hospitalised for severe constipation thought to be linked to endo (I lead a glamorous life I know). I was put on a gynae ward and the girl opposite me with endo had pain so bad she was on morphine and they wouldn't let her go home on it so it was just a horrible cycle of her being sick when taking it, and screaming in agony when she tried to go without. There are so many different types of pain endo and adeno cause: aching, stabbing, ripping etc. It gets in the way of so many normal things others take for granted: clothes, sport, sex, going to the loo, being in bumpy cars, even sitting and laying down. It makes you feel drained, exhausted and irritated but it goes on for so long you become amazing at hiding it and just carrying on. It's not acceptable that something that causes women decades of unbearable pain is so little understood and prioritised for research. Repost @endoupdate — ・・・ An increased risk does not mean that someone is guaranteed to get it. Most of the studies into autoimmune conditions found the increase in risk to women with endo was relatively small, but still mathematically significant. These studies though serve as guidelines, particularly for doctors who see a lot of women with endo, to be mindful of other symptoms that could indicate the presence of specific autoimmune conditions. 👩🏼: We spend so much time fantasizing about the big moments that make us happy: vacations, parties, ect, however we really don’t take time to acknowledge the simple pleasures in life. Simple pleasures can range from seeing your significant others face when you come home, taking a hot shower at the end of the day or even just driving around town without any traffic. For me one of those pleasure is the rain. It’s so peaceful, calming and provides such a great stillness which gives me the ability to live in the moment. Comment with one of your simple pleasures in life.

Endo facts are hard. This one is especially difficult to read for various reasons. First, I don't think many people want to think about conducting autopsies on fetuses. But, it's science, and pregnancies can be unsuccessful for a multitude of reasons. Second, the idea of retrograde menstruation is religiously followed among many OBGYNs despite contrary evidence (again, thanks Dr. Redwine et al.) Third, because of the idea that endo comes with mensturation, it's difficult to grasp that endo pain can be experienced prior to puberty. It is what it is. From the CEC: "In fact, as many as 70% of teens/adolescents experience symptoms early in life and even before onset of menstruation – yet the outdated notion that endometriosis cannot affect young patients leads to postponed diagnosis for several years – 30s, 40s – by which time ‘destructive lesions have affected the tubo-ovarian structures and severely compromised fecundability.’ [Brosen et al.]" Study of Endometriosis in fetuses: Signorile, Pietro G., et al. “Embryologic Origin of Endometriosis: Analysis of 101 Human Female Fetuses.” Journal of Cellular Physiology, vol. 227, no. 4, 2012, pp. 1653–1656., doi:10.1002/jcp.22888. #endosisters #endopain #endoawareness #endometriosisawareness #endometriosis #endofacts #girlswhoscience

PSA!! For anyone with food sensitivities to DAIRY, especially those with PCOS and ENDO, as well as those who have vaginal irritation after sex... . I remember back when I was absent-mindedly still using generic, nasty-ass latex condoms. Whenever one came out of a package my puss would pucker - ugh, gad, they smell so bad and they'd leave me feeling a little... raw. . Two potential issues can be at play here. One is latex sensitivity, which is a thing, but what we're not considering is DAIRY sensitivity. 🥛 🧀 . Listen up: MILK CASEIN is an ingredient found in the generic condom. If you get sinus-y when you eat milk products, consider that you can still have similarly inflammatory reactions within the vaginal wall. Your vagina is just as sensitive as your throat (think about it - they're the same tube, on opposite ends of the body). . For those with dairy or general food sensitivities who are using condoms, invest in a good NON-LATEX VEGAN brand. Your vagina will thank you. . . . . . . 🍆 ✌🏼 . 📷 @hanna_panchenko at Encinitas, California

💛💪💜🙏🌻 ➖ 👉 When you have menstrual cramps but also places to go Hello girls Yesterday I found this image of @gemmacorrell And I said to me in what hours she drew me last week or two eres ago... I was just at the break of my treatment and I was in pain we had gone to a place with my mom and I remember that I felt the colic come and the contraction and I just crossed the legs and breathe and I do not know what face I put and my mom told me you have pain and I said I do but now I have a contraction. And I thought about all my endo sisters that day by day with pains and everything went out to do work, study, to the clinic and I also thought about those that stay in home with pain that day like me the next day. I think about you and those who suffer pain with your menstruation and can not do things from your day to day and think that it is normal, I tell you it is not, look for the cause, look for a specialist. 💛💪💜🙏🌻 #Repost @gemmacorrell • • • • • When a simple trip to the store is torture! Everything I put out there, I hope it has a positive impact on every girl that has read it or anyone who has came across is during a difficult time. I have tried every option in the book and done so much research and trail and error that I want any sufferer or even an individual worried that they could be suffering from something similar mentally or physically to reach out to me and I will help, talk and advice you like I have with many brave brave girls. I know it’s easier said then done but I really do believe in hope. I hope we have better days and I hope we have better care. Endo can be hit or miss but here I am 6 weeks after my third operation in the surgical ward waiting to find what type of surgery I need to fix complications. But this time does feel different to all the others, it feels more hopeful. I want all sufferers to try and feel more hopeful. More open and more ready. Regardless of what surgery I get, I’m going to continue onto my life like nothing ever happened and jump straight back into doing my degree + youth work. I’ve learnt not to let endo affect me because the more we over power it emotionally, the more we win and gain self confidence and self love. Endo will no longer defy my happiness, it might delay my plans but that’s just life. I believe every girl out there with these struggles know there bodies so well that they don’t need continuous attention from surgeons or hospitals. If you admit to ER, approach with kindness but also assertiveness otherwise your going to leave feeling more defeated by a disease that doesn’t deserve our amazing bodies. As I’ve said before, it’s easier said then done, but believe in hope and bask in the thought of the new positive future and the reassuring thought that endo does not defy you and it never will, ever. You defy and you rule endo, as well as what anyone else thinks or judges about it. You know what you deserve and what self love you need. Hope hope hope. I hope my surgery tomorrow is nothing but I know for a fact I won’t let it affect me at all and ill prove endo wrong again afterwards without it knocking me down. 💛💛 #endometriosisawareness #endometriosis #hope #selfcare #endowarrior

Happy Endometriosis Awareness month! Last year I revealed to everyone about a chronic illness i have been suffering with for years. Today, I have surgery to remove all of the endometriosis and put this disease in REMISSION for a VERY long time or hopefully FOREVER!!! Im happy for the brand new start. This surgery will reduce my pain and increase my fertility which is more important to me than ever. I have gone through so much with this illness and also grown and learned so much over the last couple of years. This disease is misdiagnosed by so many doctors that women go YEARS suffering like myself. This is why I started @endoqueens. It is a goal of mine to spread awareness. Have women diagnosed early so they dont suffer the way i did. Endo queens website and apparel will be launching SOON! Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey thus far. Your support wont go unnoticed ❤️😊 #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #endo #endoqueen #endosisters #endowarrior #endowarriors #endoblack #endotough #blackexcellence #queen #chronicillness #pain #fertility #infertility

Having a little ‘rant’ on my story today about chemicals and what we put in our bodies. I do think we are humans needs to educate ourselves more in what we are putting into our bodies and the chemicals we are exposing ourselves to and the consequences they can have on us. I know it’s your body and you can do what you want. But we can’t put petrol on a Diesel car and expect it to run fine. We can’t reply on the super markets telling us what’s in them when 1/2 of them make up fake farms as to where they get the meat from. I want to make sure I educate myself and my girls on it all so we have the knowledge and we do with it what we think is best. I am trying my hardest this year to have a healthy body and a healthy mind because of I’m honest the past three years have been a complete hazy mess where I regular feel guilty for not remember things I should be remembering of the girls growing up. I know as mums we all try our very best and being exhausted 75% of the time does not help but I’m hoping this massive lifestyle change of no longer eating meat and trying to eliminate milk and dairy from our life will truly help us. Sorry for my rant/ William Wallace speech😂! I just want to share my story with you all. Also anyone wanting to know any more about @norwex and how it helped myself and my mum @cathiemc68 please get in contact. ...Which is why it's misleading to refer to endo as a disease of 'reproductive years'. Symptoms can persist during natural, surgical and chemical menopause. Shared from @endoupdate - Endometriosis is not a 'career woman's disease' it can affect anyone of any age and persist throughout a person's life. Earlier recognition and treatment of endo is the only way to lower the life burden of the disease. ENDOMETRIOSIS & IMPACTO EMOCIONAL 💔 . . . . . . . ____________________________________________ #uterisima #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #impactoemocional #dolorpelvico #sexologia #terapia #acompañamiento #saludfemenina #pelvis #dolorpelvicocronico at Lima, Peru

I may have endometriosis, but I do not allow endometriosis to rule my life, or my fertility. #AD. . . The month of March is not only #endometriosisawareness month, but it is also the month I was diagnosed with Endometriosis 11 years ago. 1 in ten women have endometriosis and endo can affect their fertility. Since infertility can be a symptom of Endometriosis, it has been very important to me to know more about my body and my cycle. Thanks to @avawomen I am able to track my cycle while I sleep. I came across some of these today and decided to do my part in spreading a little more awareness about a disease that I deal with every day. I was 1st diagnosed almost 10 years ago when I went to the ER for a pain so severe I couldn’t move. I remember laying on my bathroom floor sobbing and telling my daughter that I needed help. I had no idea what was wrong, but I knew it was something major. Fast forward 48 hours and I was having emergency surgery to try and save my ovaries. First time ever having major surgery and first time ever really needing a trip to the Hospital aside from giving birth. I was scared. The Dr. informed me that they were able to save my ovaries and that they removed a cyst the size of a babies head, however I was diagnosed with stage 4 endo and told that it was riddled through my Fallopian tubes and that I wouldn’t be able to get pregnant without IVF. Like that wasn’t enough, the Dr. further explained that this more than likely wouldn’t be my only surgery and that there is no cure. I will never forget the first night in the hospital, alone and scared and sad. Over these past 10 years, I have tried different BC and eventually stopped taking them due to the side affects and that I constantly needed a new dosage. I asked my dr what other options I had and she said “none”. So I set out to find a way to battle it. I completely changed my diet, started yoga and regular exercise. I began my journey in figuring out how to live with a disease that has literally changed my whole life. I don’t share my personal experience from a victim standpoint, I share it to bring awareness from a warrior standpoint. I am winning over this disease, but I still have flare ups and still have issues from time to time. Please take some time to do some research on the disease, because chances are that someone in your life is battling this disease too.🙏💕🦋 #endometriosis #ilivewithendo #endo #endometriosisawareness #silentdisease #enoughisenough

My CT Scan Results 😢👎 * I try my hardest to get in the mind frame that there's something positive in every negative and tell myself to always hope for the best but prepare for the worst. (Living with endo for 15+ years has definitely trained me well for that). This helps me to shield my mental and emotional health so whenever I get bad news I'm in a sense 'prepared' and go straight into auto pilot. It's like, 'OK, that's s*** but what's the plan going forward, what can I do to fix this, let's just get on with it and get through'. But after the phonecall I recieved today I've gone into complete shutdown mode. I have no plan, no answers, this is out of my control and I am terrified. My tumours grown so is now classed as Stage II and the size of a small grapefruit, measuring at 7.8cm. For me being 5ft3 and a petite size 6-8 (family genes) there's not a whole lot of room inside my tummy/pelvis and is causing me a considerable amount of pain suffocating my other organs. The scan has also shown 2 large cysts on the left side around my ovary with some free floating fluid, we are hoping that they are caused from my PCOS and that the cancer hasn't spread. I have a large amount of endometriosis, adhesions and scar tissue fusing my organs together around my diaphragm and my whole lower abdominal area that is so bad I've got a frozen pelvis. Deep fibrotic nodules and deeply infiltrative endometriosis have replaced pelvic soft tissues with high-density fibrosis. My pelvic organs are firmly fixed to pelvic bones, causing me immobility and complete disabling agony. I had a bone marrow biopsy done yesterday and will be seeing my oncologist in a few days to discuss the results. I wanted to share this with you, not for sympathy or attention and not to belittle endometriosis in anyway at all. But to tell you that you know your body best, trust your instincts, if you think there is something wrong then don't stop until you get an answer. Don't pass everything off as 'oh it's just my endo pain, it's just a flare up, I'll be fine in a few days'. DO NOT TAKE 'NO' FOR AN ANSWER! If I seem a little erratic this is the reason why. Thank you for your support sisters 👭💔💕

As March comes to an end so does #Endometriosis awareness month, but awareness is needed the other 11 months of the year too 🤔🗓 Often an "invisible illness," endometriosis affects one in 10 women and can go untreated for several years before being diagnosed. We sat with UT Health to discuss the most common symptoms. Link in bio.

March is endometriosis awareness month. Some of you may be familiar with this condition but for those who dont, endometriosis[en-do-me-tree-o-sis] is a reproductive condition where cells from the uterus find themselves in areas outside of the uterus. Because these cells are originally from the uterus, they can respond to hormones in accordance to where you may be in your cycle. A hallmark feature of endometriosis is really bad period pain. The pain usually gets worse as you age and can be in felt in areas outside your lower abdomen, like on your bladder, intestines or bowel - making bowel movements or urination painful or even painful sex. Currently there are no tests or imaging that can confirm this diagnosis unless you have a more invasive procedure that involves a surgery called laparoscopy. Depending on your doctor, some women can be left in the dark, because they are told that their period pain is normal or not that bad (um, no) and are put on the pill or pain killers. Some women can go almost 10 years without a diagnosis and left in pain. While the drugs doctors offer may make the symptoms go away, it’s not addressing the underlying cause, meaning your symptoms will most likely come back after you stop taking those things. 50% of women who have infertility have endometriosis. Endometriosis can be a long road for some women but there is hope. It can be managed naturally so that your symptoms lessen or even disappear. I would love to help you get there, if you’re curious to learn more, send me a DM or a free 15 min consult (link in bio). #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #endometriosisawarenessmonth #womenshealth #hormonehealth #hormonebalance #periodpain #naturopathicmedicine #bewellthy #striveforhealth #westqueenwest #libertyvillage #parkdale

It takes, on average, 7 to 10 years to get a diagnosis of #endometriosis, and most OBGYNs do not know enough about the disease or how to treat it. What explains this state of affairs? @seckinmd of @endofound says the reason is not that complicated. Listen to episode 6 to learn about simple and complex ways this confounding disease is being addressed. Link in bio. #endometriosisawareness #1in10 #womenshealth

When we are conditioned to feel like we have to ‘fit in’ it’s hard to accept the part of us that make us ‘stick out’. #PMDD is a #mentalillness that makes you feel like #jeckyllandhyde. Add that to #PCOS and #endometriosis and you begin to feel like #frankenstein! By learning to accept that both of these people are, in fact, who I am, I’m learning to cope. - - - - #pmddawareness #pmddwarrior #womenofillustration #femaleillustrator #pmddawarenesschallenge #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #illustration #hearts #colours #health #art #artoninstagram #illustratorsoninstagram #artofinstagram #endometriosisawareness #endometriosisawarenessmonth

💛🌻💛 Another wonderful @alnicbd CBD Suppository testimonial from another member of the #endofamily ! 💛 Thank you so much Cait aka @chronicallystill for taking the time to share your amazing experience with @alnicbd CBD suppositories & creating a comfortable, safe space for everyone to learn about how CBD suppositories can help their pain! I know many people may now be open to or interested in trying a suppository because of your post, so thank you for helping to demystify the illustrious CBD suppositories and method of relief! (read below for her reposted caption) 💛🌻💛 CBD Suppositories On sale for the rest of March, $5 off each + save 15% with code ENDOAWARENESS15 (sales end 3/31) 💛🌻💛 www.alnibodycare.com 🌿🌻🌿 . . #Repost @chronicallystill with @get_repost ・・・ Hi, I’m talking about #suppositories and if you don’t like it, stop reading. This is a page for pelvic pain, and I’m keeping it real. No one should feel ashamed to use these. If some thing is helping me feel better, function and lower my pain... then I want to let others know. • I’ve had significant issues finding things to alleviate my pain- especially my pelvis, low back and down my butt / thighs. It’s debilitating. I’ve tried so many interventions (including alternative) with no relief. It’s been very discouraging. To the point of not even wanting to TRY something new, but I got out of my comfort zone & did. • I haven’t shared openly about this...ever? I’ve been using suppositories since 2013, but then insurance STOPPED paying for them 2 years ago. And the other helpful compounded meds, UGH. And I had to make my own version— which I felt like I was likely wasting the medicine & not absorbing it the same way sadly. • Then I found these - they WORK SO WELL. They help me SLEEP better. I have very bad IC, which causes horrific pain and issues, NO treatment works (I was just told to consider bladder removal at 27) - I really feel like these help with that as well. They help in SO many other ways to calm my muscles, so I can relax. • They’re LIFE CHANGING. I can’t explain the feelings of not having X symptom that has been so bothersome for years. Needless to say, I need to order more. • •

I have Endometriosis...and yes, I’m still smiling because...God! March is Endometrosis Awareness Month and I almost didn’t share my story again this year (actually took this photo last year and never shared it🤦🏽‍♀️) because I just don’t talk about it and try to stay positive —also, honestly I had just gotten use to suffering in silence. * * I decided to finally share my story because it’s not about me— I pray it will help someone else. We must start sharing to help others! This condition has caused me so much psychical pain over the years and mental and emotional as it has contributed to my infertility (WOW this is my first time sharing that outside of family and a few close friends). * * My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 9+ years. (Some of the years were off and on but, more on that journey soon) * I so thankful for my husband who is so supportive and loves me unconditionally! 💕💕🙌🏽👏🏽 We will win!🙏🏽 * * Endometriosis is a condition in which cells similar to those in the endometrium, the layer of tissue that normally covers the inside of the uterus, grow outside of it. Most often this is on the ovaries, Fallopian tubes, and tissue around the uterus and ovaries; however, in rare cases it may also occur in other parts of the body. (From medical website) * * The cause is not entirely clear. Risk factors include having a family history of the condition. * * My endo has gotten better since changing my diet and taking supplements! * * If your cycle causes you extreme pain or if you have pelvic pain please tell your gynecologist and ask about endometriosis. A transvaginal ultrasound is how I was diagnosed years ago. * * Thank you to family and close friends who have been supportive! Also thank you to new friends also suffering from endo @imaprilchristina. Thanks to doctors and educators like @jessicashepherdmd and encouragers and coaches like @coachgessie !💕💕💕 - - - - - - #endometriosisawareness #endometriosis #endometriosisawarenessmonth #health #womenshealth #infertility #hope #blackgirlmagic #fibroids #blessed #march #tuesday #tuesdaymotivation

#endophotochallenge **Day 26, Surgery** - Finding an Endo Specialist will absolutely make a difference in your diagnosis, treatment, and recovery! Nancy’s Nook on FB has a full list of specialist worldwide. If you’re in America and the Wisconsin area, I highly recommend @thekaldascenter. He’s changed my life. DM me for more info. . Frequent surgeries can be depressing. So, on a lighter note, we established a surgery tradition when I was younger and have continued it to this day. We always stop for a shake or smoothie on the way home from surgery. It probably sounds silly, but it’s something that I look forward to - especially having a #specialdiet. Do you have any surgery or procedure traditions? 💛 . . #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #endoawarenessmonth #endosisters #endosurgery #autoimmunedisease #appletonwi #endospecialist
