The baby girls are about 10 days old now, and since today is glorious I thought I’d bring them out for a little bit of supervised exploration. Swipe to see them in action. #pollydangermenagerie#chicksdayout

I’ve found my Cuckoo Marans to be a little bit of, well, drama queens. Anyone else have this observation? I’ve never kept them before this year.
They make a huge fuss over nest-building each day compared to my other hens. I’ve had some broken eggs because one continually scratches out so much bedding to make the most perfect circle in the nest box, complete with a hard wooden bottom. 🤦♀️ I need to get a liner she can’t budge before I end up with an egg-eating situation.
And what is happening in this video? 🤷♀️ There’s a Marans in the nest box having a cluck-off with this one who is up on the roost for some reason. Meanwhile a Plymouth Rock is in the next box over quietly minding her own business.
Anyway, observing the behavior of the chickens always interests me and makes me curious. I may spend too much time home with only small children.
Roca. Calm. Sweet. Intelligent. She has a really great memory when it comes to the scary pooper scooper (it fell ONCE and made a scary noise..) and when she manages to find a tasty morsel (worm, moth, PIECE OF STYROFOAM) she runs as fast as she can to get away from everyone else (even my husband.. ya shoulda seen him chasing after her..). She was the only one nice to Lavender (R.I.P) and Goldy when they were babies. Love this chicken ❤️ ( @nicnchicks )
This just happened 😍. Because I won’t give up on my dream of blue and dark brown eggs, we got 2 Easter Eggers and a Cuckoo Maran. Our first try two years ago ended up being 3 hens and 3 roos and the roos were all the chickens who lay cool color eggs. Not that I’m complaining about our beautiful pink eggs. Fingers crossed these three stay hens! Welcome little chickeedoos! #iwantalltheanimals
