I spoke to Bob for longer than you would expect. All this while him not knowing that I had taken pictures of him as I walked by, and then decided to turn back to engage in conversation. I’ve taken it almost as a challenge lately to start up conversations with random yet interesting people. To look out for presented opportunities to engage, however sometimes you don’t really find any, and so I visualize. I visualize the potential of where any conversation can lead. Every friendship you’ve ever made, even the very best ones, the ones that you value the most right now, all of those started through a single conversation and most usually a simple exchange. Typically, beginning with a greeting, and ending with a feeling. A feeling of potential in connection. The power of words, an ability that you’ve always been capable of performing with such ease, has lead to your happiest of memories and greatest experiences. Your world has been built on words. The world has been built on words. So why not exchange in a few words with someone new everyday? Why not practice the use of my words, and train myself to find the very right ones that would lead to the Ideal result. The greatest learning possible. ⠀⠀
I asked him towards the end, what are some of the things you’d still like to accomplish? Mind you, our friend Bob is 79 years old. “I’d like my legs to work better, be stronger, support me more.” He said.
Bob loves the ocean, he has a boat, that he doesn’t take out as much as he’d like, at least not anymore, he calls her Betsy. Of course...Bob and Betsy.
At 79, I’d like to see myself capable of swimming. And at the very least, capable of getting on my own boat, as many times and for as long as I’d like. And whilst speaking to him, I remember thinking of a quote I’ve once read, “Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.”
What do you think are the most important words you’ve ever spoken? ⠀⠀
And please remember, the most important words, are the ones you say to yourself.
