Yesterday was a good reminder to hike your own hike. I’ve never been a super fast hiker—most of my life hiking has been with my dad far outpacing me, until I was in shape from doing fire and wildlife work (I still wasn’t fast, just less slow). Then grad school happened. Then a job that had me mostly on an ATV. Then off season and a serious lack of motivation. Anyways, I was getting frustrated by the amount of breaks I needed and everyone passing me, but I realized the breaks let me see the details. The flowers. The light through the trees. Laughing at Spur hunting slivers of shade. Contrary to what capitalism and hyper-competitive American tendencies teach us, not everything is about how fast and how far and how many people you pass. Throw off the weight of perfectionism and hike your own hike y’all. ✌🏼 .
