Mt. Barnard was the first peak we climbed the day we arrived on the Freshfield. We couldn’t see the entire ridge from below but when we got to the top of the first false summit, this awesome snow ridge awaited. I love not having detailed route descriptions, just follow your nose!
There were some pretty famous names in the register including Thornington, Palmer and Feuz in 1922, Perren in 1952, Dane Waterman by a new route on the South Face solo in 1980. Awesome history!
It was 10955' as measured in 1922, now revised to 3340m. I got 3350 on my GPS. Darned close to 11000', maybe someday it will be officially measured again? Not that it really matters, the climb and view were awesome!
