#mindfulmovementbysarah Monday tip of the day💫… the pilates Single Leg Stretch!💫
The Single Leg Stretch is the first exercise in the ab series. The ab series is a series of 5 core exercises strung together by Joseph Pilates himself. Over the next 5 weeks we will explore each exercise in the series. ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
The goals of Single Leg Stretch are to strengthen the abs while also stretching with opposition. It requires coordination of breath and movement, while having stability and control. ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
Try it out: Start laying supine on your mat. Draw both knees into your chest and lift your head, neck and shoulders. Gaze at your core. Place your inside hand on your left knee, and your outside hand on your left ankle (see pic above). Extend the right leg out to a 45* angle (or lower for more advanced). Exhale all the air out of your lungs as you pull your left knee into your chest, and engage you abdominals. Then switch your legs as you inhale, exhale as you pull the opposite knee into your chest. Make sure your legs hug your midline as you switch them out. Repeat as many times as you like. When done pull both knees into the chest and rest your head. ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
