The old-school is alive and well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I met my training partner, Evariste, one day because I approached him and asked if he competed in bodybuilding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Something about him also reminded me of Lou Ferrigno. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To my surprise he told me he has never competed before, in his strong french accent, because he refused to take steroids or any substances physique athletes take for competition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have legitimately never seen someone in person with as classic a shape as him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And a giant though he may be, he readily took me under his wing as a training partner. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He preaches the old-school principles. You know, the “whole milk, eggs, and steak for muscle” type of mentality. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The blood and guts “high-volume, forced reps every set” breed of intensity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He has the old-school mentality to match it too. He has no instagram account, cares not for flaunting his muscles to get women. He simply loves the sport, and is modest as can be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is rare today, I believe. So many guys are in the gym, hopped up on gear, dressed in the latest GymShark outfit, and sipping BCAAs while taking selfies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Meanwhile it seems like the training itself has become an afterthought. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Presence, modesty, friendly competition, intensity, class. Oberhead press has long been considered one of the/if not the best activator of the long-head of the triceps. Never underestimate the power of getting a new sports bra 🐆 and the power of having anabolic lighting. It’s public knowledge that I have a sports bra obsession, I own over 70 and counting. It’s ridiculous but so am I 😜. I did chest and I’ve honestly really grown to love chest day and look forward to it every week even though my shoulders tend to steal the show in pics. It’s not my strongest feature on my physique obviously so the day really challenges me. Do your best to keep your form strict for as long as you can, once you can’t anymore either have a partner spot you through the positive motion and you control the negative SLOWLY or 2. Dumbell chest isloators. Not all chest exercises require you to use heavy weight. Here I am on an incline bench holding the weights out in line with my chest palms out. Then swooping the dumbells together below chest height to meet in the middle and squeeze.
