Looking at my pictures right after my 2015 trip to Goa was the real kick in the ass I needed to jump start my fitness journey.
TransformationTuesday: Goa Edition
Over these 5 years, I’ve vacationed in Goa at least twice a year.
But over time, I realised drinking up all the port wine Goa had to offer over a weekend probably wasn’t the best idea if I wanted to transform into the best version of myself.
I don’t drink anymore, obv, & made a few more lifestyle changes, while on vacay:
🏋🏽♀️I workout whenever possible, with whatever I can, wherever I can. Whether that‘s a bodyweight beach workout/ laps in the pool/ hotel gym access, I try to get in some strength training most days.
🚶🏽♀️Staying active isn’t a problem when I’m exploring a new city, but when I travel just to relax, I make sure I hit my step count in & around my Goan siestas.
While working out was always easy on vacay, I let my cravings for rich, fatty coconut-based seafood curries & warm poi get the best of me. Coming back home to a number I didn’t like on the scale (initially)/an unpleasant ab check would always teach me that it didn’t matter how much of a beast I was, even I couldn’t outtrain a bad diet.
So in the last year, things have been a bit different; in keeping with my more refined lifestyle.
🔢I carry my foodscale with me for portion control. If it’s really impractical, I’ll eyeball familiar foods, which isn’t hard when you’ve been tracking your macros for a while.
🐠I used to go all out when I would eat out at beach shacks, bc I’d say “Oh fish is protein! I can eat it all!”🤦🏽♀️ The smarter choice has been to pick leaner types of fish, so I can eat till my stomach’s full & my cravings are satisfied.
So when you meet someone with a “beach body” who says “I eat everything!”, know that good things come with a lifestyle based on discipline & commitment, not on #YOLO.
