“Alrighty class everyone sit down” Our teacher said smacking her wooden ruler against her podium.
We all sat down as she pulled up her skirt and fixed her glasses. She seemed like a real hell of a mess today. “As some of you may not have been aware of, one of our beloved classmates, Riley Lewis, sadly passed away this weekend from an unknown cause of death. This has come to a shock to all and for the next few days we will not be doing much. We need to find any evidence to find what may have caused her death. Principle Wrigley will soon come on the intercom and dismiss us all, so we can go inspect this case, and find who is to blame for this tragedy.” She wiped her eyes with her handkerchief and stepped off of her podium.
“I saw Riley on Saturday, that means that this happened within the last 24 hours.” My friend Anna, leaned over her chair and told me.
“What was the last thing she had said to you?” Lilia asked tuning into our conversation.
“The usual. ‘goodnight b, ily <3’ the thing she texts me every night.” She turned back to in her chair and put her face in her palms. Weird.
Just as predicted, Principle Wrigley came over the intercom and released us. I walked back to my locker with Lilia and Anna till they had to walk to theirs. I opened my locker to see the beautiful bouquet of flowers Asher gave me. I turned around to see Asher walking toward me.
“Hey Anns. It’s been a while.” He said leaning against the locker next to mine.
“Yeah it really has. I’ve missed you.” I said regretting what came out of my mouth. “You know in like a friend way.” I saved myself from that. I hope.
“Yeah, of course yeah. In a friend way.” He put his hands up in defense when he said friend way trying to be funny. God I’ve missed his stupid humor. I smiled at him and he returned the favor.
“Oh thank you for the beautiful flowers.” I responded as I pulled the bouquet out of my locker.
“Your welcome. I thought that would be the best way to get you to even think about talking to me again.” He laughed quietly. I could tell he was very anxious.
