In need of a reboot to kickstart some weight loss, heal some inflammation and rid some cravings. Sooo what better way to do that than jump back to carnivore keto for a while. Committing to 75 days to take me from today to my birthday in May. Aiming for around 95% carnivore, sticking to fatty cuts of steak, chicken, pork, salmon and convenience foods like sausage, bacon and eggs. I include dairy, but limiting myself to heavy cream and butter/ghee. I tend to have inflammatory reactions to cheese so I typically feel better avoiding it. I consider it a carnivore KETO or zero carb approach as I don’t mind allowing the occasional 0 carb syrup or sauces as well as stevia as a sweetener. Coffee and tea are necessity but simply water to drink aside from those. 95% carnivore meaning if I want mushrooms with the steak, I’ll have them😋🍄. Anyone else enjoy switching/experimenting with keto and carnivore keto? Or better yet anyone wanna start a new challenge with me for accountability? I hate putting myself out there . . . and obviously I have more work to do but I lost approximately 50 pounds since July of 2018. I did so by being more intentional about all of my decisions, nourishing my body and challenging myself physically. If it isn’t supporting your goals it ‘s a distraction. Period. Is breakfast important? Having been a mid-day, evening eater I used to think no, until I recently learned my routine may be interfering with restorative sleep. So of course I started to pay attention to how well I was sleeping and realized I was not getting my usual deep sleep. So the past few days, I started having breakfast and eating my last meal between 3 to 4 PM and what a difference this has made. Restorative sleep is a critical process in healing and rejuvenation. Topic: Why am I not losing weight? . . . You may want to reconsider that pre-workout and post workout sugar laden protein shake or carb refuel if weight loss is your goal. It has been well established that calories do not matter in the grand scheme of weight loss. Why? Because obesity is a metabolic problem. Therefore the quality of food you eat matters a lot versus quantity!! Insulin is a critical hormone to control, because it is the hormone of fat storage. When we feed our body excess processed carbs, sugars and "paleo" foods broken down as such we are telling our body to store fat and insulin levels remain chronically elevated. Our bodies are not designed to eat every 2 to 3 hours, six times a day. . . This is why we see dramatic differences in body composition between a person following a well formulated ketogenic diet who walks their dog versus a person following the standard food pyramid spending 2 hours a day in the gym. The poop question!! What is happening with #2 on a carnivore diet?? . . Probally the most common question I get being a strict carnivore is about my bathroom habits. How about you? The answer is truly as simple as the lifestyle itself. Meat is the most bioavailable nutrient dense food you can consume with a majority of it being absorbed in your small intestine. If you are a strict carnivore this will result in going less and not making as much waste because your body is using your food more efficiently. This is often confused for constipation. Ask yourself are you bloated, having pain etc? Your steak is absolutely not rotting in your gut. As Dr Paul Mason so eloquently put this in perspective for us, when we eat foods such as vegetables and fiber that our intestines can not absorb we get constipation, inflammation, gas pains and malabsorption issues and actually go more, which is truly a sign of our body not efficiently using the nutrients we are feeding it. This is why many people on a ketogenic diet struggle with constipation due to the increase fiber intake of cruciferous veggies etc. Dr Mason's research points to the fiber theory being based soley on face validity because in theory it makes sense but in reality does it work for our patients? There appears to be a mis-match between theory and outcome🤔 What are your thoughts and experience on this topic?

This is a chart showing the EAT-Lancet proposal for a global diet. 57% of the calories will come from grains, sugar, vegetable oils, and soy and 1% from meat. Given what we now know about nutrition science, the observable results of the current food guidelines in people over a generation ( just walk around any mall and observe), the current state of world health etc, ask yourself are we winning??? . . I highly encourage you to read and research for yourself. Are you happy with your results during World Carnivore Month? Let's keep going! The carnivore diet is the ultimate elimination diet and for many people it simply works in managing and reversing chronic medical conditions such as autoimmunity, neurodegenerative, and metabolic processes. Patients with the best long-term results do what works for them whether it is to remain a strict carnivore or add back in foods that are tolerable. Often times we do not realize the effect certain foods have on us until we remove them for a time and re-introduce them. No one person is the same, so use how you feel and look as your marker of success and standard. You have permission to be unapologetic in your transformation, if it is working for you, go for it! Many people get caught up that they are doing something wrong because of how simple the lifestyle becomes. You are actually doing something right because simplifying frees up your time for living and your purpose! Picked up this marbled beauty to hold me over until my @butcher_box arrives in the next few days. It is hard to believe I did not know how to cook a steak until a year and a half ago and thought to myself others may be struggling with the same issue. A #keto or #carnivore staple bacon and eggs. I can eat this meal everyday , oh wait, I practically do. This is the last food I have in my home while I await the arrival of my new @butcher_box hopefully tomorrow or Friday. With the start of the new month, I think I will use this as an opportunity to fast for a few days. I love the start of a new month and setting my goals and of course introducing coffee again on a regular basis. It was hard going without most days this past month, and to be honest there were some days at work I walked over to Starbucks. Coffee helps with my mental clarity and I truly enjoy the benefits of my 1 cup a day, especially before my workout. . GOALS: I believe stating your goals, gives them power. I like to keep them in front of me and carry them with me on a small index card. Every month I set a personal, financial and business goal. When working toward a big goal, I find setting small manageable monthly goals works really well and allows you a chance to adjust and focus on moving forward. . . What are your goals for February? What about that B12??? I was preparing a post about this exact topic, when I chanced upon the account of @the.holistic.psychologist Where she has done an excellent job breaking this down for us. One of the best and most bioavailable sources of B12 is meat. People that lack intrinsic factor have trouble absorbing B12 as do patients with long term use of PPI and H2 blockers. These patients may require injections. Your mental health starts in the gut and your nutrition is what will heal your gut. Stay tuned for more posts on mental health as I research this topic. Today's Question: Can I eat raw meat on a carnivore diet? . . Sunday Breakfast steak with salt and thyme prepared in bacon grease cooked medium. I get asked this question a lot, if raw meat is ok to eat. In theory yes, if you like it and your stomach acid has not been altered by anti-acid medication, however to eat raw meat will be solely at your own risk. I am not recommending raw versus cooked as this is your choice to do what works for you. Many people in the carnivore community and cultures eat raw meat with no ill effects. My preference personally is to cook my meat. Do any of you eat raw meat? What has your experience been?

Breakfast is bacon and chicken gizzard cooked in bacon fat and salt. For those of you still wondering why you don't see any vegetables or fruits on my plate anymore, I have developed a lot of different food allergies and sensitivities in the recent past. So I'm currently eating a mostly carnivore diet. I still enjoy a cup of black coffee every morning. This is what is working at the moment to keep me from hives and itching head to toe. I grow a huge vegetable garden every year and have loved fruits and vegetables my entire life. So this is quite the drastic change for me. I'm hoping to be able to enjoy eggs and cheese in small amounts at some point in the near future. Meanwhile as strict as this carnivore way of eating is, my body feels so much better. Benefits of Eggs and Attention Target shoppers!! . . First off I noticed @vitalfarms eggs in the black box are now in my local Target store and .75 cents cheaper than Whole Foods. These are my eggs!! Not only are they the best tasting in my opinion, they are also pasture raised with gorgeous yolks. After becoming a @butcher_box customer, I only visit a store once a month to stock up on eggs, bone broth, water and going forward coffee again. Besides using to add shine to the coat of a dog or the mane of a human, eggs are an extremely nutrient dense, inexpensive source of protein and delicious paired with steak or ground beef. Selenium, vit D, B6, B12 and minerals like zinc, iron, and copper are just a few of the nutrients eggs provide us. The yolks, which I hope you are eating are a great source of fat soluble vitamins like A, D, E, K. Because I am back into complete turbo nerd chemistry land again with essential oils, I also have to mention eggs also contain lecithin, which is what causes the emulsification in hollandaise sauce and mayo. Both are excellent condiment choices on a ketogenic diet. If I indulge in mayo, my go to is the Primal Kitchen brand, sold now is most grocery stores. . . And for coffee and smoothie lovers!! What about organ meats?? Many people ask if they should incorporate organ meats into their carnivore lifestyle. While it is true organ meats are very nutrient dense, I believe there is adequate nutrients just in the various cuts of steak and ground beef. Personally I do not like organ meat and do not eat it. If you would like to incorporate organ meat, such as liver go for it if you like it! @ketogenicgirl has some great pate recipes that can make it bearable for those that want to create a great tasting side dish. The key to success is buying what you can afford and eating what you like. Do not worry about being perfect in this lifestyle, no one is, focus on learning what works for you! #knowyourworth

A great chart illustrating that we are simply not designed to consume the mass amount of vegetables and fiber we do. Add sugar on to that and you have disaster in the form of IBS, bloating, constipation etc. As humans, we have a tiny pouch called a cecum that is not able to completely ferment vegetables. The Carnivore Diet and weight gain......is today's question. . . . Eating a zero carb diet you would expect the opposite to happen, but your scale is creeping up. The first thing you need to do is step off the scale and throw it in the trash. Buy yourself a measuring tape instead and measure your neck, upper arms, waist, hips, thighs and calves. Jot these down on a piece of paper and file them away for a month or 2. Start re-establishing a healthy relationship with your natural hunger signals, eating to satiety and hunger. For the past generation we have been conditioned to deprivation and calorie (which by the way you can do a cartwheel, they don't matter) restriction, essentially starving ourselves to be thin. The only problem is "thin" in a deprivation state is not the same as "thin" in a carnivore state. Things you want to consider is are you replacing fat loss with muscle and are you improving your bone density? As you start providing your body with the raw materials and nutrients it needs weight is going to adjust and fluctuate. Do not obsess over this because the magic happens on the inside before you see it on the outside. This is why when you do your measurements in a month or 2 you will notice a change in body shape and inches lost. Worry more about your health and body composition because weight loss is a natural side effect that occurs over time. Trust the process and go by how you feel! Are you less bloated, is your skin glowing, is your gut working, are your clothes fitting better? The scale is the least important marker in your transformation although it can be a motivator for some, I find it to be distressing to many. I did not know I had reached my goal weight until I actually checked and the scale rang in at 130. When exactly I hit this, I have no idea because I weigh myself less than once a month. As in life, I like to keep things as simple as possible, especially with my lifestyle and meals. I only really eat 6 foods and they nourish and sustain me so I can continue to grow into my best self. The older I get the more I value experience and my relationships. Life can change at a moment's notice and life truly is precious. You value it even more when you are given a second chance and realize your time on Earth is finite. I think this is common at middle age. Some call me extreme or black and white. I don't view this as a character flaw, to get to where you are going you need to make decisions and be confident in your purpose. Living in the grey zone or in wishy washy land leaves you stuck in your life and in your story. Success will always be elusive if you fear it. Becoming a minimalist has changed my life in more ways I can count and has allowed me to increase my productivity in my passions.
