More recently, our group at John Hopkins Hospital and others that I work and do surgeries at, have successfully used a central cannulation technique with excellent results. The purpose of this brief post is to describe the technical and procedural details specific to cannulation of the dissected ascending aorta and to propose a classification scheme of ascending aortic dissection anatomy based on difficulty of central cannulation. Until you've walked in the same shoes of someone who suffers chronic migraines, you will never understand that person's pain! I've done so well with my migraines unless their is storm and the pressure is up, and at that point there is no control, but this afternoon was a special kind of hell! A muscle spasm occurred up and around as though my head was the race track. Now these things are powerful all while making you feel powerless and fatigued, sometimes the spasms will drop you to your knees. There is no specific reason to why these occur but they are sudden and will effect me in every way for the remainder of the day and sometimes for the coming couple of days. A recent study showed the association between push-up capacity and cardiovascular event risk, and found that men who were able to do more than 40 pushups had a 96% decreased risk for cardiovascular events in comparison to men who were able to do less than 10 pushups. In an ideal world, we'd all have time to exercise for an hour each day, burn enough calories to indulge in our favorite foods, and fit in all of the other commitments we have. Unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world. So when we do find time to squeeze in a workout, we want to get the most out of it right?! High intensity interval training or HIIT - is just what the Dr ordered!💪 Sounds great, right? It is, but not all interval workouts are created equal. Here are three ways to smash your HIIT and burn maximum calories - Good: 10 minute workout - Tabata training Inspired by a study that found that just four minutes of HIIT four times a week could yield big gains in cardio strength and muscle development. Go really hard for 20 seconds any exercise you like, then rest for 10 seconds. Repeat that 10 times. Better: 1 minute intervals work so intensely that it takes you 2 minutes to recover. Repeat 10 times. If you are overweight or new to interval training choose exercises with weights that take body weight out of the equation, such as using light dumbbells. Best: Climb The Pyramid Once you've become comfortable with the above, take things up a notch: Do hard intervals of 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes and 4 minutes, with a recovery after each of 30 seconds. Then work your way back down with intervals of 4 minutes, 3 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute. It'll burn plenty of calories!
