♻️CARB CYCLING♻️ . Follow @roballenfitness for more fitness/nutrition info 👊🏼 . I get a ton of questions about carb cycling. It’s one of the newer eating strategies and is getting more popular. Do I recommend it? Not really. It’s a much more advanced method than most other strategies and requires strict tracking and constant modifications along the way. There are endless variations for every goal and unless you really know your body and are very good at tracking, you’ll have trouble sustaining it . That being said, some people respond very well to it so I made some basic guidelines to follow if you really want to give it a shot and see how your body responds . To lose fat, you need to eat less than you burn and you want enough protein. The low carb days will amplify your caloric deficit and the high carb days will give you energy to workout and allow you to enjoy more carbs (make it more sustainable) 👍🏼 - Make sure you keep your protein around 1 g/ lb of BW and vary your fat vs. carb levels : Try to get 2 of your workouts in on the high carb days . Gaining muscle while carb cycling. Here you need to be in a «gentle» caloric surplus. Still get in that 1 g of protein/ lb of BW and allow the fat and carb levels to fluctuate. Again, try to get your workouts in on high carb days . Please keep in mind that there are MANY variations of carb cycling. Some stagger high/low/no carb days and some have low/no carb days stacked together. Unless you are extremely advanced, don’t worry about this stuff at all. Seriously 😎 . Cheeseburger pasta for tea tonight. Took me ages to find the recipe again, I usually follow @sw_mamabear’s highlight but it’s not there anymore 😫 so I had to google one and followed it loosely sort of making it up as I went along! 😂 I used 80g of mozzarella as it’s provided 4 portions so that’s one hexa choice per serving. I made it with @quorn_uk rather then beef mince, and added onions, red onions, pepper and garlic, frozen tomatoes and canned tomatoes - all speed. Worcester sauce, beef stock and loads of seasonings. Par boiled my pasta and then added it into the pan to finish cooking along with the mix. Really nice and so cheesy 🧀 yum!

Honesty post. I’m so mad with myself for not staying focussed on my healthy and fitness journey. I tried this outfit on for going on holiday and I genuinely cried. I felt like a wobbly sack of potatoes. This pose hides most of the bits I hate, and a lick of fake tan gave me the confidence to wear it. I know everyone will say “be easy on yourself, you’ve not long had a baby and mat leave is for eating cake” but it’s really not good for me eating this way for this length of time. We come home from Spain on Thursday and I come back here again at the end of May. I hope to lose at least 10lbs by then. I’m starting BLW with Poppy so I’m really hoping that that will help me eat better because she won’t be able to eat half the junk I currently eat. I also really need to get out more with Poppy in the pram or sling, walking will make such a big difference to my weight loss. I don’t wanna feel like a frumpy mum any more. Anyway, on that note, does anyone have any family favourite BLW meals? I follow a good few accounts but love to hear personal recommendations 😊

As we approach the weekend, let us not forget that weekend calories count too. - If you want to stay on track, have a plan going in. Don’t let a cheat meal become a cheat day which biomes a cheat weekend. And btw, I am not in favor of “Cheat” anything. Saving that for another post. - There are plenty of ways you can still make progress this weekend and able to go out and enjoy yourself: - ➡️If you know you are going out, keep the calories light until you go. Eat lean protein and veggies before you go, and give yourself some wiggle room. - ➡️Have a protein shake before you go to that party. Will take the edge off of your hunger. - Give yourself rules before you go - rules that are non negotiable, that you stick to, no matter what. Some rules you could give yourself: - ✅1 plate of food. Eat whatever you want. When it’s gone, you’re done. Helps keep the endless munching down. ✅1 drink. After your 1 drink, you are done. Also order sparkling water at the same time and sip on that too. Makes your drink last longer. - ✅No bread basket at the restaurant. Leave room for the meal. - ✅Share a dessert. - The weekends can get out of control when you don’t have a plan, when you wing it and not pay attention. And if you aren’t careful, all of the progress you have made throughout the week, could be out the window. - And there you are, starting over yet again. - Weekends don’t have to be perfect, but if you want to continue to make progress, be aware and have a plan. And if you do go over your calories? - Hop right back on track the very next meal. Which is your favourite egg? ➖ Based on some research by Barker (2017) we are to consume ~17,000kcal of chocolate over the Easter weekend equating to >1,000g fat & >2,000g sugar (lol) therefore, I thought it only be right to post an “egg comparison” just to make you slightly more AWARE about the kcals in what you’re going to devour tomorrow but that’s not tonight’s topic. ➖ Remember when you were a child & you’d eat a WHOLE Easter egg as if it was nothing, not worrying about macros? Let me ask you this, did you turn into an obese slob or maintain roughly the same weight year-round? The latter most likely. Fast forward 10-15yr however & I can BET that most of you (girls especially) ate more food to maintain your weight back in your teens than you do now, even though now you are meticulous about macros, excessively exercising & carry more muscle mass/metabolically active tissue on your frame. What went wrong? DIETING. ➖ Back before the “fitfam”, everything was healthy, hormones & metabolism were in check & your body regulated your food intake efficiently. Queue early teens however, when the peer pressure has you pressurised to look shredded ‪24/7 & you end up with young, lean, growing boys/girls aggressively dieting & f**king their system up. Diet, diet, diet, never any time in a surplus or even at maintenance. Results? They hit their 20’s with a f**ked up system, low energy, maintain on poverty macros & get fat from just looking at an eater egg yet alone eat it. Why? Holaaaaa 😎 here’s me at the weekend on the hen do, at the wonderful @timeoutlisboa living my BEST life - prawn burger and white wine 👌. - Have had a week away from here and now glad to be back in the swing of things. Had SUCH an amazing time at my best mates hen do. Enjoyed every minute - Lisbon is a beautiful city, they bloody love a party and the food is amazingggg - perfect combination👌. I want to relive the weekend over and over, it was so much fun and I loved being with my oldest friends who I don’t see enough! - Since getting back, unfortunately, the last week I’ve had a bit of an anxiety flare up, most probably due to being tired and out of my normal rhythm. I’ve had a few panic attacks, which I haven’t had for AGES, but today I woke up feeling much calmer and got a lovely run and gym session in which has worked wonders! It shows me how important it is for me to get regular exercise to ease the anxiety which sometimes floods my mind. - Today has been a good day and the sun has helped too. Tonight's snack is reduced fat mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, a boiled egg and honey salad dressing. This came to 210 calories in total. Before making this i saw a snickers bar in the fridge for 266 calories when i was following slimming world i was obsessed over using my 'syns' on shit food and shit food ONLY, chocolate, crisps, icecream anything sugary. I'm not knocking slimming world its a great plan and has helped thousand reach their goal however for me i found it gave me unhealthy habits which I'm now slowly trying to change. So instead of having a chocolate bar for 266kcal that i will demolish in seconds and still be hungry and craving after it , I'm having 210kcal of protein rich filling food. Everyone's journey is different and that's ok I've been extremely hard on myself lately , worrying and stressing about my body and how it looks which is ridiculous. This body that i look at in disgust every day has been through hell and back it got me through a heart and double lung transplant less than two years ago and that's what i need to see when i look at it , how strong it is how strong i am.
