The main reason to travel across Malaysia to the East Coast was to go to Pulau Tioman. The Perhentian Islands are unfortunately still closed (due to the monsoon) and because we had such a good time on Pulau Pangkor and Langkawi and we read really good stories about Tioman, we went there.
My plan was to share an overload of pretty sunset photos, us in hammocks with fresh juices and photos of all the art works we would make in the sand... Guess what? That didn’t turn out as planned 🙈
Instead I whined and whined and whined in the stories and we couldn’t wait to get the h*ll out of there. (sorry! 🙈) The island was full of sandflies! Mean mean creatures! If you think they got their name because they live in the sand: think again! They have this name because they have the color of sand but they are EVERYWHERE!
The only thing you can do is completely cover yourself. But I mean: every inch of your skin, including neck, hair, hands, feet, face... Since we came to relax on the beach you kind of understand that that was a bummer 🙈 Especially because there is nothing else to do but snorkel or dive and since it was low season almost everything was closed 😕
We tried the beach for the first two days, by applying insect repellent every 30 min, but we still got eaten alive. So today -when we had to wait on the ferry till 4.30 PM- we just sat at our guesthouse and waited 🤣
Not that that helped, we still got a few more bites 😱 When we waited for the ferry we saw we were not the only ones. Everyone was covered in bumps! It looked like of all us had the chicken pox 😭
Anyway... we learned that a place can look as paradise on a picture, but is a living hell when you get there 😏 I’m glad to inform you we have left and are safe now 😇
Ps. This is not one of us in the hammock. We wouldn’t dare 🤣 (it’s just the only pretty picture I have from our Tioman adventure). .
