Today, I’ve been experiencing significant emotional dysregulation. This is triggered by distressing or upsetting events both big and/or small. When dysregulated, my ability to accurately gauge the severity of circumstances, others’ words or behaviors, or environmental triggers fails. In the moment, a particularly small issue can seem legitimately huge and seriously devastating in my brain. Unfortunately, this type of dysregulation is a cycle that leads back to further problems with regulating emotion. The DBT skills (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) that I find most helpful are mindfulness (a difficult muscle to build) and “simply” STOPPing. See all the slides for some technical schwords and some healthy coping strategies from DBT. 🚨 what are some healthy* ways you manage emotional dysregulation? 🚨 share your thoughts or experiences in the comments below.
