My first stop in South America ❤️... Quito, Ecuador. Quito greeted me with two days of altitude sickness, but I’m not mad. Since my trip to Cuzco, Peru several years ago, I’ve become very sensitive to higher altitudes. Even in Denver, Colorado, which is only 5,690 feet / 1,730 meters I can feel it! So I don’t (fully) blame dear Quito for my ailment.
I loved Quito’s cheap and filling almuerzos (fixed lunches) for $2.50 and the mora (blackberry) flavored frozen yogurt that they sell in the street for 50-75 cents. Heaven!
BTW, did you know that Ecuador has been using the US dollar since 2000? It was so nice not to worry about learning a new currency!
In this photo you can see The Virgin of El Panecillo on top of the hill. She’s only been around since 1976, but she’s the largest winged Virgin Mary in the world.
I took this photo in the streets of Old Town, which is very beautiful, but quite unsafe after sunset. All the police disappear at that time. 🤷🏼♀️ For that reason, I always made sure to be in my hostel before the sun went down.
Have you ever been to a sketchy or less-than-safe place that you absolutely loved? at Quito, Ecuador
