Per Wikipedia, “badlands are a type of dry terrain where softer sedimentary rocks and clay-rich soils have been extensively eroded by wind and water. They are characterized by steep slopes, minimal vegetation, lack of a substantial regolith, and high drainage density.” This doesn’t sound like it should be so beautiful but I’ve always been captivated by the kaleidoscope of colours from this barren landscape.
This was another scene, much like the majestic cottonwood from last week, where it was really hard to find the magic composition. I could see that the scene had so much potential but I just wasn’t happy with the composition until one of the very last frames. I had walked all the way along the ridge and gone high and low and just couldn’t see why @davidthompsonphotography was so excited, lol. Then tada, it was the moment and the light was perfect.
