🦋🤸🏼‍♀️🦋 I swear my ass is going to think twice before I ever ask @hangingwithlauren to put me in another pose I find from a photo after today. She kicked our butts SO hard at class today I had to ask if the heat was on. So grateful for these classes that bring so much joy, peace, happiness, community and pride to my daily life and i had no idea I was missing it!!! I honestly can’t imagine not heading to class after a crazy work day and just falling forward on the hammock and letting it all out and then messing around after class like this. The incredible teachers have a knack for making things look so easy and effortless but don’t let them fool you. After screaming getting into this pose and now losing my voice after getting down I was on my back trying to regain breath and army crawled my way back to my mat because I felt like I was hit by 10 trucks. After class at home I took a 45 minute @codyrigsby @onepeloton Latin cycle 🚲 ride to fool myself I was doing a dance party vs a workout and he said something that just hit me today- you don’t show up for your instructors, you don’t show up for your peers you show up for you. You push yourself for you. You’re here because YOU want to- now make YOU proud with the steps and the strides YOU take. Give an effort YOU are proud of- your numbers, your workout is YOURS. Today, im gonna pat myself on the back because I’m freaking proud of what I did because I surprised myself. Also progress check! We are so happy you are happy with your new Shakti Yoga Wheel® ❤ @breathingskyhealingarts . #WorkoutWednesday We asked GWA Trainer @mitchell.33 for his top tips on how you can improve your barbell deadlift. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mitchell’s tips are put into action with PT client @mr_killoren ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here we go! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣ Start by standing your feet just outside hip-width. Have the bar over your mid foot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2️⃣ Grip the bar tight with both hands just outside your legs. Point your elbows backwards to engage your lats. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🧐 Why do this? You’ll keep a neutral spine and stop the shoulders from rolling forward, which arches the upper back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3️⃣ Push your hips backwards to straighten the lower back and engage your hamstrings and glutes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4️⃣ Keep a tight grip on the bar, sink your hips slightly, put your weight into your heels, and allow the bar to roll toward your shins. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🧐 Why do this? It relieves slack from the bar. When you stand, everything moves in unison. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5️⃣ Everything should now be locked into place. Drive through your heels, stand up, keep everything locked tight, and push your hips forward. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Questions about the deadlift? “I just want to help women feel comfortable in their own bodies.” . . I hear this quite a bit from women who are curious about what I do and how I make my living solely from teaching yoga and being a coach. And here is the thing, I love teaching and will never stop. I think sometime people think you can only do ONE thing for a living, and I don’t want that. . . . Teaching yoga fills me up. I see men and women daily learn to breathe and be vulnerable in their practice. Cause let’s be real, taking a hot yoga class surrounded by 20 other people is not easy. It’s scary and vulnerable but I LOVE guiding people to find peace in their bodies despite it. . . . But then I also have this really amazing online platform with coaching. Where I offer my clients, on a much wider scale, a toolbox of health, fitness, and wellness. And I have created this community where yes, my clients get strong and develop healthy eating practices, but they also learn to accept their bodies every day. Cause it’s a 2 way street— to feel good in your mind you gotta treat your body well. . . . And the way I have made this my job, is I didn’t give up. And I put my trust in the process. And I started as a server and a yoga instructor and a coach and am now a yoga instructor and a coach. And so you know, it’s doable. With a crap ton of student loans and bills, I was still able to make it work. . . . If you are passionate about helping others feel comfortable in their own skin, this is a really great way. I was a psychology student who wanted to be a therapist and also at one point wanted to be a yoga instructor who made YouTube videos, hahah. But now I know where my heart feels most passionate— both in the yoga studio and in my online community. It doesn’t have to be so all or nothing. at Vancouver, British Columbia

I’ve been incorporating more challenges into my yoga practice. . Backbends have always been a challenge for me. I have tight shoulders and while my lower back is super curvy my thoracic spine does not want to bend that way. . These things take time. It’s taken me two years to be brave enough to try chin stand in a vinyasa away from a wall. It’s not easy sometimes I try to avoid back bending because it’s hard but I know I’ll never be able to do the things I want if I don’t try the hard stuff. .
