90 years of a Melbourne icon.
In 1929, the Regent Theatre first opened its doors to the public. Originally a grand picture palace, the theatre was designed for entertainment, including silent films, live stage, orchestra and Wurlitzer Organ performances.
Dwindling audiences in the 1970s brought the curtain down for 20 years, but having survived a fire, a flood and many threats of demolition, the Regent Theatre was reopened by Marriner Group in 1996. It stands today more lavish and grand than ever, holding a very special place in the heart of our city.
