BUT my ADVICE for you if you are being slowed down by perfectionism as well, is to 🐎 do the best you can. Do your work in a way that it's done, because having the job done is much better than having an excellent work in progress.🐎 Just get things done! TIPS FOR ALL NEW GYM GOERS 👉🏻 Gym intimidation is a real thing. Every time I have to join a new gym due to a move I feel that intimidation again. I still feel nervous, even as a regular when I’m trying something new, and often machines are slightly different in each gym! I can convince myself others watching and judging. This intimidation can be the reason many moms won't lift weights...it's certainly why I didn't start for years.... • So, how do you get more comfortable lifting in a gym environment? 1️⃣ Start with an at home fitness plan. Buy some weights and follow the plan at home with no one watching. These allows you to start to get familiar with weight training. 2️⃣ Work with a personal trainer in your gym (even if it’s just a few sessions) or some gyms have free intro sessions. Find someone approachable and make sure they are pre/post natal qualified so they can give you exercises appropriate for pregnancy and post baby. 3️⃣ Start with lighter weights. You don't have to go in the gym and lift heavy from day 1. Indeed it's better to work on your form and get comfortable first. 4️⃣ Use the machines. They often have instructions and they are designed to limit injury. They are easier than using dumbbells , kettle bells and barbells to start with. 5️⃣ Buy yourself a workout outfit you feel good in! It's not essential, but if you feel comfortable/good that is key. You can get reasonably priced gear from the likes of H&M, Target or Old Navy. (not sponsored) You don't have to wear short shorts and a bra! Wear what you feel ok in. You don't want to be conscious of your clothes and your exercises. Wear a hat! Really it helps! Especially when your red and sweating! 😂 6️⃣ Ask! Most people won't mind you asking them to help you set up some equipment or do a quick demo. Look for fitness team members of staff! 7️⃣An all ladies gym is a great option if there is one near you to start. 8️⃣Join a lifting group class! Go to the back. Watch others and follow the instructor. 9️⃣ Listen to music or a podcast to drown out the distractions and insecurities. 🌟Remember most of the time others are focused on their workouts and won't be watching you! 💥 WHY FLAT AB WORKOUTS DON'T WORK 💥 BY @p_n_training. If I see another post on an infographic for getting a flat belly, I'm gonna scream 🤦‍♀️. Look, there's nothing wrong with working your abs. It's a muscle and should be exercised as well, BUT ONLY doing these workouts and expect to get flatter abs, that's not how it works. Please don't be fooled by those posts or quick videos that promise you 5 min abs by doing countless sit ups or crunches. Doing those ALONE don't work. As with the rest of your body parts, YOU CAN'T SPOT REDUCE. Can't spot reduce love handles, can't spot reduce under arm flab or anything you think doesn't look good. In order to see visible abs, you need to go into a CALORIC DEFICIT. You don't need to starve yourself, just reduce slightly or increase your activity level or both! Abs are muscle under layers of fat. That layer of fat is necessary for insulation. So if you want a "flat belly" then ⬆️ your activity level and ⬇️ your calories. Your workouts need to be more about intense and heavy COMPOUND LIFTS. Why? Because these exercises will build muscle and building muscle requires LOTS of calories. As you build muscle, you burn fat. Do more squats, deadlifts, presses and pulls. Lastly, get some sleep. Muscles need time to repair properly, plus better sleep helps to reduce stress levels, which is one more thing that can give you a belly if you're stressed. Ok. I'm done. Hope this helps some of you out there. Know that any exercise you decide to do is great as long as you're moving but if it's just with that one thing in mind, it's not going to work unless you apply all the other factors above. If your feeling stiff like a board when you wake up in the mornings give this a try 👇👇 - Morning Stretch Routine - A good way to clean out the cob webs in the morning - Upward Stretch - Put your fingers together and raise your hands above your head, palms facing upward. - Elongate the spine and feel the stretch in your rib cage and arms. Hold for count of 10, then stretch to either side for counts of 5 each to target your torso. - Neck and Shoulder Stretch - To stretch the muscles on the right side of your neck, turn your left ear over to your left shoulder, hold for a 20 count. - Repeat on the other side to stretch the left side of your neck, repeat 2-3 times - Low Back Stretch - Bend one knee and allow it to fall over the opposite leg, as the hip rises off the floor. Be sure to keep upper torso on the floor. Should feel it through the lower back. - Lying Quadriceps Stretch - Lie on your side on the floor. Support your head with your free arm, pull back on the foot of the top leg with your knee flexed. Hold for 30 count, repeat 2 times - Hamstring Stretch - Lie in a supine position with one leg bent, foot flat on the floor. - Grab the back of the opposite leg just below the knee and pull towards the chest. Keep the stretched leg straight, but not locked at the knee joint. - I try to do this every morning. Although life gets in the way sometimes. - Also keep in mind to warm your muscles up before stretching. Never stretch a cold muscle. - Have a hot shower or do some quick movements before working your muscles to maximal ROM. - Try it out! So many people post workouts and videos that lets be honest many of us cannot do. Most of the time you see the end product of years of working on a particular movement such as handstands or any type of ring work or pull up sequence. Right now. The fact is I am only ever living, right now! Plain clothed, real time, unswole, extra insulation, a little creaky, maybe a bit unsure. I am me. Right now. Imperfect and very unique. The image in my head of a “perfect” picture, is great. I just have to remember that there needs to be a true voice and meaning with that “image”. Not just a selfie. The workout or weight loss or body image will never define who I am. It’s not enough to capture all of me and it never will be. If you are looking down in disgrace or disgust about your body image. Stop it! That’s an accuser and that voice is a lie! Your struggles, perseverance and experiences ARE the real you. The meat and potatoes. It’s the stuff that makes you unique, interesting and useful. If you are not encouraging yourself as much as you would encourage someone else. Then that’s a mistake! So correct that mistake. Progress pic day! Saturdays are check in days for my team. This is just a weeks difference. - Came in at 185.4 this morning. It's a slow growth, but it's worth it. I'd rather take my time growing now, rather than dirty bulk and have too much fat gain I need to cut off. - It's not all about the scale though, clothes are fitting me well, and I'm slowly using more and more weight in the gym. 05Feb2019 Workout👟: Liift 4 - (10 and 20 lbs weights). Week 7 Chest and Back at hotel 🏨 gym. I went up to 20 lbs because the hotel didn’t have two 15 lbs weights available. I was sore for a few days. 🎶 Remy Ma, Whuteva So I haven’t really been exercising the past 3️⃣ weeks 👀since I’ve been traveling 🧳 a lot . + I’ve been eating more starchy carbs than usual (dinner rolls 🥖 , biscuits, rice 🍚 , and then the past week small sugary desserts almost daily 🍪 ). 👉 CAN YOU GET LONG AND LEAN? 👈 by @p_n_training. Read Below⤵️. Can you get long muscles by doing Yoga, Pilates or Barre? Short answer is NO. Can you achieve lean muscles by doing 15+ reps and little to no weight? Short answer is NO. This has to be clarified because that's what many articles in women's articles say. You've read them as well as me : "Get LEAN, long and toned in just 10 minutes" or "Stretching 5 minutes a day to a lean physique" or something along those lines 😅. I'm not knocking stretching, I love doing it because it feels good and is good for me. Nor am I knocking Yoga (I practice it), or the other body weight exercises. BUT THEY WONT GIVE YOU LONG MUSCLES. That. Is. Not. How. It. Works. FACT: Your muscles are attached a certain way that yup, no matter how much you stretch, they won't get longer. It's impossible. FACT:Consistent stretching or doing the above exercises only increases your range of motion by improving body weight strength, flexibility and balance. FACT: What does change is your nervous system perception and tolerance of a stretch. So yes the more you stretch, the more comfortable your nervous system will be in allowing a deeper stretch. FACT: You may not be able to get long muscles BUT the appearance of lean muscles come from strength training and progressingly adding heavier weights as you go. Y’all. I bought these shorts online the summer before I found the @fasterwaytofatloss program. I ordered up a size just to be safe they were appropriate for my thirty-something-year-old mama self. They arrived in the mail, I excitedly pulled them out {because I seriously NEVER buy myself clothes} put them on and I was immediately deflated . . . They were SO tight! I was so embarrassed. I thought for sure they would be a tiny bit loose or at least FIT since I went up a size. I mean, booty was looking SO squeezed in there and muffin top galore! 😣 . . . I’m not even sure why I kept these shorts, because I obviously wasn’t going to wear them. See, I was now a mother of 3. I had given birth to 3 children within 5 years. Yes, you read that correctly. The way I saw it was, that I had reached that point in my life where I was just going to have a “mom bod” . . . Well, PRAISE the good Lord, I was WRONG about that. I am so thankful I stumbled across a program I had never heard of, and decided to give myself one last shot before totally giving up . . . I learned how to properly fuel my body. I learned how to eat and exercise in a smart, and effective way. I learned that I can have FREEDOM with my food choices and still be healthy, strong, and shed fat. I learned a new way of life that has CHANGED my life . . . Not only have I changed my health from the inside out, I have a PASSION burning inside of me to show others that THEY can do this too!
