This race will forever be epic for me. My first 25km in trails. But what makes this one so damn epic was the crazy ass weather conditions that we all endured that day. 🐾
Torrential rain + lightening-thunderstorms. Like I thought for sure this race was going to get cancelled! Oh no, not for all these tough runners who all showed up doing distances as long as 100 miles.
First lightening hits at around km 5, my phone gets all wonky. From there on, I'm listening to the same 6 songs over-and-over again for 2.5 hours 🤯
Let's talk about mud + puddles - it was like a tough mudder swamp. We were all struggling with our footing to avoid slipping + wiping out. 🐾
Just before reaching a very hilly part of the course at 17km, I wipe out hard. Face first in mud. Wind knocked out of me! Knees banged up. I had to get my adult ass back up. Barely could see though my eyes, tried to wipe that mud off + got up + kept going... It wasn't pretty let me tell ya!!!
For a new trail runner, this was tough - suffer factor was at an ultimate high. In some insane way - I LOVED it. I now get why these runners were out there! A true test of your mental game.
Sulphur Springs 25km - 12th place female. I'll take it 😄
