It’s easy until it gets heavy 👉🏻 something we say to a lot of our students & to ourselves. Not just speaking to the weight, but also the technique. Training sessions are all about practice, achieving a specific goal, being mindful and focused. Workouts are about walking in, getting it done, feeling the burn, sweating, etc. I prefer to dedicate my time to training. . . . Week 8, Day 1 - back squats, 2 sets of 5 @ 155lbs (pretty much body weight 😉). After recycling at 150lbs at the end of May, I’m working my way to 160lb next session 👏🏻💪🏻. . . A year ago my bestie convinced me to take my health back. She knew I was struggling with confidence, with exhaustion, and perhaps even with depression. I was so nervous to walk into the gym. But after just a few weeks I was hooked. I loved seeing my body change with workouts and healthy food. The trainers were amazing at helping me workout around an injury, encouraging me to stick with it. I took control of my health. Lost 35lbs and I’VE KEPT IT OFF!! I’m lifting 3 days a week and am setting new PRs about every 6 weeks. Our bodies are amazing. They respond to activity, to food as week and positive environments. Even more then the physical change, is the mental change I’ve experienced. I can tell I feel better, my mind is more clear and I’m able to be more patient with my family when I’m working out consistently. PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD 👇🏻👇🏻 - - Hit a plateau in the gym? - - 🏋🏻‍♀️💪🏻🏋🏻 Don’t forget about the 1.25kg and 2.5kg plates. - - Strength gains don’t happen that fast, especially when you are past the beginner stage. You’ll need those smaller weights to progress. - - That’s why it’s generally a lot easier to progressively overload with barbells rather than dumbbells. With dumbbells the smallest amount you can increase is 2-2.5kg, with the total being 4-5kg. With barbells you can add the 1.25kg to each side and increase by 2.5kg total which is a lot easier to progress over time. - - If you think the smaller plates are a bit pathetic to use ➡️ A strength increase of 2.5kg a month = 30kg over a year. Or if you’re really lucky an addition of 2.5kg a week = 130kg in a year 🔥 - - So before you dismiss the smaller plates, consider your end goal. Do you want to progress with your lifts? As drake says, where do I really even start? Can’t seem to shake these migraines, lost my seeing glasses on vaycay (which isn’t helping the headaches) and most of all we had to rush Liam to the ER last night around 2am and stayed there until around 9am. He woke us up on the monitor choking on some really bad congestion. We sucked a lot of it out but he had a terrible cough and still couldn’t breath comfortably so we didn’t chance it and took him to the ER. Turns out, looks like an ear infection and croup. He’ll be ok. Still, first parent heart attack out of the way 🙃. . . This would be pretty much the definition of what we’d call “internal load” or “life stress” that *could* effect training. That said, this sort of stuff doesn’t, as a matter of necessity, HAVE to effect training if you can avoid some of the catastrophizing and negative thoughts that come with it. Go into training and let the warm ups tell you how your training will go and maybe some video review if you’re not super comfortable with your RPE rating. . . Here’s a 445x1@8 (10 pounds under all time PR) and 405x5@9 (matched for all time PR). Bench is up 10 from last week, trying to speed up the descent on the single, so it was a little shaky, will work on that. PR set of 4@285@9. . . I could’ve skipped training tonight or just done some random stuff that made me feel good. But I stuck to the plan. I may not have gotten a reward or gained any virtue points; it is after all still a privilege to be able to train. But I’ll pat myself on the back for tonight. . . My food allergies have me avoiding most fruit and vegetables. I seem to be doing alright with rice, wheat and oats. Reintroduced a little dairy without issue so far. A day of firsts. After almost 6 months of being in a prolonged pain flared Dani has made some progressions with learning new movements to continue maintaining her function. Stiff legged deadlift, barbell box squat and modified dumbbell man makers. The stiff leg dead is 👌🏻 perfect! I’m so proud and pleased with her form. I can’t help but reflect back 3 years ago when she started a rehab program with me after rupturing 2 discs in her lumbar spine, her movement so impaired. And now this! Determined to never stop. The barbell box squat. This is constant work in progress. There was a time Dani could not squat at all! Just a semi partial squat with severe forward tilting. And with hip and knee mobility issues, she may never reach full depth or heavy load but that’s ok, her goal is constant progression to wherever she can get too. The man maker- yes I have modified this a lot for her and her capabilities however on her first attempt she worked to fatigue and completed 10 in 2 minutes and 42 seconds with 5 kg dumbbells. Can you tell which rep I managed to groove well? The key to a good press is a direct line of force into the bar, and a direct vertical bar path. This means getting it over your skull. You can see rep 1 and 3 it stays out in front too long and I struggle to move it. Rep 2 was much more vertical in part and moved the best. This was set 6 of 8. Hummus Recipes! These are delicious! Each one cost less than a dollar and five minutes to make! . We used a food processor and added 1 can of Goya Chick Peas, lemon juice, and a little water to make a base for each recipe. . For the garlic hummus, in the food processor add the minced garlic, onion, and salt with the base and blend . Roasted red pepper- cut up one pepper and roast it in the oven for about ten minutes at 350. In the food processor add the pepper, onion, paprika, and chili powder with the base and blend. . White Bean- in the food processor add 1 can of white beans, onion, green onion, salt, minced garlic, and parsley to the base and blend. .
