#ThrowbackThursday 2012, when I was around 21 stone. Bloated, suffering awful rosacea flare-ups, and probably about as unhappy with myself as I had ever been, as I was about to embark on a cardio-based mission to out-train a bad diet. [N.B. You can’t out-train a bad diet.] 😩 On the right, 2019. 💥 I still have plenty of ups and downs but thanks to the tools that I have learnt to use in the JSA, I no longer attempt to escape from them with food and alcohol. Almost time for lights out on on the final night of what has been a truly epic adventure with Mrs Mindfulbelly @ginistheanswer. The interesting thing this time, is that I have zero holiday blues. A real first for me. _______________________________________________________ I am genuinely excited to get back home, get back in the groove and start making real progress again. Yes, the last 10 days will put me back in terms of numbers on the scale in the short-term, but this is a long-term project with the focus on the mind as well as the body, and to achieve something truly sustainable. With that in mind and all the changes I made in the first 12 weeks of this year, I see a break and a little carefree, guilt-free fun as a complete positive in the big picture. This shows me that I’m really starting to learn and grow as a person, as after any other holiday I’d spend the first two weeks back home eating like a depressed horse and moping about feeling sorry for myself and feeling guilty for living my life. _______________________________________________________ I intend to hit the ground running (well not actually running 🤣) once home, have this holiday padding gone in no time and to be back into unchartered territory again creating new limits. _______________________________________________________ Exciting times await. #themindfulbelly PS apologies for the jet-lag induced ramblings 🤣🤣🤣 at Atlantic Ocean

Sorry for the spam today but... On the 16th April 2018 I decided to force myself to hit a basic goal of 10,000 steps daily. I wasn’t getting out of bed, I barely looked after myself and I was mentally and physically not ok. Fast forward a year, broken toes, the discovery of a bone growth in my foot, various other health stuff etc, not to mention awful weather and a horrible winter in England.... I’ve not missed a single fucking day. Come rain, shine, motivation, poor mental health, stomach bugs - literally no excuses I’ve done a minimum of 10k steps daily. As you can see from the average I’ve smashed that 10k goal and now most days I hit a minimum of 20,000 steps - never, ever underestimate the importance of getting your #neatup247 - @diren.kartal I hope you’re proud of how much your message helps people!! Dieting is hard - yes it’s as simple as being in a consistent calorie deficit - but that doesn’t mean it isn’t difficult! After a weird week and eating loads and going through a whole host of emotions I’m moving forward and dare I say I’m actually excited to get dieting again - lose the weight I’ve gained in the past couple of week and work my arse off to get closer to my target. My plan, quite simply, is back to basics. Consistent calorie deficit, high protein meals, dog walks, weight training and the odd gym class. It’s not about being perfect all the time, which is where I put tonnes of pressure on myself. It’s about being consistent as much as possible and accepting that there will be days where it doesn’t go to plan but to not let it spiral. Ok so without exaggeration I’ve easily gained 1.5 stone in the last week. I’ve eaten sooooo much food and I’m surprised I didn’t turn into a Sainsbury’s oat and raisin cookie or a hobnobs flapjack I ate so many. It was also my birthday and I ate everything in sight (but strangely no cake!). Not that it would counter act the damage I did with my diet but I did keep as active as possible... Changing aspect ratios - not the first time I’ve done that since starting my journey back to health! - with my new 6-slot toaster to replace the one that caught fire! My best-laid plans this morning also went up in smoke when one of my staff went sick; today is going to be like pushing water uphill, but I don’t have the luxury of a huge team to call upon. Pretty good week for NEAT. I’ve said before about how small my kitchen is, but it’s three paces from one end to the other so I’m lucky if I hit 4k steps during my work day. #balichallenge - Final photos Warning: Long post alert🚨 #longpostcrew Well where do I even begin..... This was my second challenge and it’s the one where I discovered exactly what works for me. I have a hectic life, I work full time, I’m studying for an accountancy qualification, I’m Mummy to a 3 year old girl. It hasn’t been easy juggling everything and fitting it all in, I have had to make sacrifices during these last 12 weeks and finding a balance has been overwhelming at times. #makesacrificesnotexcuses I’m looking forward to the next couple of weeks spending quality time with my daughter until the next challenge starts (yep I’m going in again 🙈 some people have said I’m mad to do a 3rd one in a row, but I ain’t finished yet 🤷‍♀️) I also can’t wait to be eating at maintenance cals for a couple weeks 😍😍😍 Helloooo increased calorie allowance hahaha I achieved all of the goals I set for this challenge. Lose 50cm overall - I lost 63cm in total overall and 12lbs. Be a size 14 clothes size - I am and I’m also wearing 32” waist jeans, which is the best feeling ever 💖 Workout 6 days a week - I actually did something everyday. 3/4 times a week weightlifting, Zumba once a week, some weeks I would add in some 1500m swims, and then the rest of the days I fill with long evening walks 70k steps weekly - I’m currently averaging around 125k steps a week or more Leg press 300kg for a full set of 12 reps - I can do 325kg Complete a 32km charity walk to raise money for Barcelona’s children’s hospital - I completed this back in February It hasn’t been easy, there have been weeks where being in a deficit and pushing myself so hard physically as well as life in general has taken it’s toll on me mentally. Shout out to my amazing friends that have helped me during these times and stopped me from hitting the fuckit button. Without them I never would have been able to achieve what I have, the support of people in this group is second to none 💖💖💖💖 I’m so happy with my final results, I feel I’ve made some huge changes physically as well as mentally. 🌴Bali -End of wk12🌴 A total of 22.5cm or 8.9 inches off through out the Bali challenge. My goal was to be within the next stones bracket. Did I achieve it? No. Because this challenge made me realise that fat loss isn’t just measured by the scale. Yes I lost some lbs but the tape measure has shown losses even when the scale didn’t. I’ve also proved to myself that I can stick at something (I’ve never stuck to any plan for this long). I’ve trained at the gym for years but am now confident in mixing up my workouts and trying new things. Whilst doing this challenge I also left a job that was bringing me no satisfaction and making me miserable. I’ve realised that happiness is important and feel like I’m finding myself all over again. The support and kindness from JSA people that I’ve never even met has been great. It’s so refreshing to have people cheering you on, you’re all legends!!!! Bali challenge ✔️ completed it mate👌🏻😁 Get my waist down to 117cm ✔️ started at 143 now 114.5cm Fit into the green jeans I bought about 3 years ago and never fit in them ✔️ Fit into the Bali goal shorts ✔️ well this is a half tick, they go up and over but don't quite do up just yet... If I want to keep the mirror from getting smashed when the button pings at it 😉😂 Lost ...25.5 inches or 64.5cm Lost ...8kgs Found...more confidence😁 Found... A love for the gym💪🏻 Found... A love for using the stairs and not the lift @diren.kartal 👍🏻 Found... The ability to say no to food I don't really need🚫 Found... My willpower💪🏻 Found... How to love myself a bit more and be more confident in myself💞 Found... A new love for clothes shopping 👗 Found... A lovely new group of JSA members to turn to when I need a kick up the arse 🙋🏼‍♀️ I'm no where near my life long target to be a size 12 or smaller, I may have gotten a bit closer to it if I was more strict with my food but I've enjoyed my takeaways and I've enjoyed my sweet treats and I'm still closer to that target than I was when I started. When I set the waist target for the challenge I thought "fuck...ive set that way to high... There's no way I'm gonna get my waist down to 117cm" but here I am, I've hit the target plus a few more and I'm so happy. I cant wait for the next challenge and will set myself to lose some more but this time off my hips as that's where I normally struggle. Also, I've found an old dress which I haven't fit in since 2013 so that will also be a target for me. Might also set myself a target of doing a proper push up, not just a girly one haha. For the newbies... You would be silly not to join the challenge, set yourself that goal and fucking smash it. Bali Challenge Results 🤪 .. It’s been a rollercoaster ride! I started off great stuck to all my daily goals, this lasted 8 weeks. Week 8 I lost my way with my CFD, I emotional ate after the physio told me I couldn’t do my Pier to Pier walk 😢 I also had a lot of pain in my thumbs, turned out to be De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis, it makes the gym hard to achieve at the amount I wanted 😢 I have physio exercise for both my knee and thumbs (I will get it done one day, with the gym and my pier to pier walk.) Lesson learnt not to be so hard on myself, also so strict to the point I have no compromise. I got back in track and can’t believe I’ve completed the challenge 😁😁💪✅ I never finish anything, life seems to get in the way. .. Out of my own 11 goals I didn’t complete 3 of them: 1. Gym 4 days a week ❌ 2. Stay in CFD, I had 2 weeks I went over. ❌ 3. Pier to Pier walk. ❌ .. What I achieved in 12 weeks .. Smashed my measurable goal.........27cm lost from my waist (goal was 20cm)✅ 89 cm lost all over. ✅ Steps increased from average 3k To 10-15k a day. ✅ Swam nearly everyday, average half a mile a day. ✅ Aquacise twice a week. ✅ Attended and completed a course called improve your self confidence. ✅ Signed up for new course...health and well-being and mindfulness. ✅ Cut down on my alcohol consumption. ✅ Yoga for my knee. ✅ physio knee class sorted for next 6 weeks 😁 Lost 23lb/10k. ✅ Increased my water intake. ✅ FINISH CHALLENGE ✅✅✅ .......Bring on the next challenge, my head is more prepared and I will plan better 😁 #jsam #jamessmithacademy #jamessmithacademymember #balichallenge #balichallenge2019 #weightlosstransformation #weightloss #weightlossjourney #goals #bodytransformation #weighlossgoals #transformation

WEEK REVIEW ___ This week has really flown by! I wanted to get my neat up as much as possible this week but the rainy weather wasn’t ideal! ___ I’ve been really struggling with staying on track in the evening, so last weekend we made some no sugar chocolate chip cookies to have after dinner to prevent any other snacking and it’s been a great help! They are delicious 🍪 and I have been able to stay a bit more consistent, fighting off the evening munchies. ___ The results are in and I’m -2cm and -0.3kgs. I’m really pleased and this goes to show that a social weekend doesn’t need to prevent progress. ___ It’s also the end of the Bali Challenge with the #jamessmithacademy which I can’t believe I’ve managed to stick with. 12 weeks of being accountable. I’ve been far from ‘perfect’ but I’ve been honest with myself and that’s a huge win. I have my life back! -————————————————- 20 years I have been smoking 29 cigarettes a day. It had been my goal for every challenge since Vegas to stop. But I haven’t managed it. I wasn’t ready. This time I was. Using everything I have learnt in other aspects of the JSA I applied it to my mindset, and I’ve cracked it. My Bali Accountability Board. - At the start of each challenge, I’ve created one, and I’ve made sure to be honest, in order to stay accountable. - This time, for some extra accountability, I asked @caloriedeficitcow and @tetley_tightens to compete with me. No idea if they stuck to it like I did, but even so, a bit of friendly competition only helped me. - There’s a fair bit of white towards the end of the week, which meant I didn’t hit certain goals. However, they would have been nights out, trips away or meals out that would have pushed me over my calories. - Part of this, for me, is to be able to balance diet and lifestyle so I don’t get caught up in closing myself off in order to lose weight (what would actually happen, is that I would eat pizza secretly in my room and moan about being fat) - So I wouldn’t change anything, I did my best with what I had. - Bali Challenge- Final Results. - I didn’t win Bali, but I won me. And a life worth living. - 12 weeks of focusing on health. Didn’t hit my goal of 30 lbs fat loss. Yet. - But I did finish. Played the game. Created 90+ insta posts- raw, honest, authentic. First interview in 12 years. Embraced my inner badass by lifting weights. Sat with the death of my best friend- experienced the grief of losing her. Enjoyed eating. Ate exactly what I want, what sounds good to me. Moved. Walking mostly- met a daily step goal. Started construction on our home. Found the courage to move forward- start to let go of the past- old habits & beliefs. Let go of the stuff- boxes of clutter that are no longer helpful. Created an impossible project- something out in the world that does not currently exist in form. Felt the sand beneath my toes as the waves crashed over my feet. Adopted a new motto. Went ice skating. Unleashed my inner genius. Made pickles. Ate lots of delicious Mexican. Allowed myself to show up. Played with my children. Took my family on vacation. Chose healthy for me and my family- natural soap, shampoo, lotion. Planted a garden. Coached. Volunteered. Shared my ideas for making things better. Paid off debt. Last workout of the Bali challenge completed. - I’m glad I did this one. Hit my goal a week earlier than I planned. I fixed my bastard niggly knee and started lifting heavier weights. - I had a surge of confidence and I went to my first meet and met some of the best people that I’d never met but had spoken to every week. - The support from everyone is crazy. What you can count as a rep vs what you can’t. - Range of motion is important. Proper form is important. Tempo is important. These will help you get stronger, whilst keeping the risk of injury relatively low. - If you’re ego lifting, and only doing a half or quarter depth rep, you not only look like a moron in the gym, you’re increasing your risk of injury and you won’t progress as quickly as if you did the exercise with a sensible weight and proper form. - Don’t be an ego lifter. Final #balichallenge data. It’s been a tough 12 weeks. I’ve trained more than five times per week on average and achieved what I set out to do: gain muscle, not get fat. Upped my cals to 3400 by the end and I’m still hungry all the time, so I’ll see if that stays the same with a reduction in training. It won’t make a jot of difference other than to me, as I’ve been running this challenge against myself because, for as much as it pains me to admit it, I’m not the right fit to win it outright and I knew this from day 1.
